000660.KSSK hynix (Seoul: 000660)Also pitched long twice in the AUG-03 fund-letter compilation — the only duplicated name in that sample besides Magnum. Artisan Partners EM: "the company's key differentiator is its strength in high-bandwidth memory (HBM)," reinforced by NVIDIA co-development and packaging/testing investment, with the honest caveat that "the pace and magnitude of recent memory price increases may prove difficult to sustain." Buffalo International: "memory is what makes agentic AI possible," and agent workloads pull "across the entire memory spectrum," with SK hynix's HBM "made to order and customized." Singh's own framing: Re-rated on capital return as well as the cycle (AUG-23) — "SK Hynix upgrades because of the sharp price increases in NAND and DRAM and the fact that SK Hynix announced a surprise 30 billion share buyback, caught the market off guard. JPMorgan has now kept an overweight… because of that massive buyback plan," alongside its place with Samsung and Micron as the memory oligopoly Nvidia just had to pass costs through to. Prior framing — a memory trade, explicitly not a holding (AUG-17) — bought in the July capitulation when the Korean leveraged-ETF clampdown left memory names at four times earnings, "just for a trade, not for long-term," with the exit already dated ahead of the midterms. Also his margin benchmark into Nvidia's print: "the memory guys are 85% gross margins which is insane." 005930.KSSamsung Electronics (Seoul: 005930)Fund pitch (AUG-03 SSR compilation, Baron Global Durable Advantage ETF): the memory supply case plus a free option — a large, early AI/agentic demand S-curve; limited supply growth (HBM more wafer-intensive than DRAM, NAND no longer convertible, two-to-three-year greenfield builds); a less cyclical industry via long-term agreements and co-design; and "we're getting the non-memory parts of Samsung for free including its foundry business." "Samsung's 4x P/E multiple offers an attractive risk-reward," with HBM4 the near-term catalyst (first to ship sixth-generation HBM4 for Nvidia in February 2026) and foundry "a long-duration call option" hedging Taiwan tail risk. (Yahoo symbol 005930.KS — the Seoul listing.)2026-AUG-03
009150.KSSamsung Electro-Mechanics (Seoul: 009150)Fund pitch (AUG-03 SSR compilation, Hood River CM Emerging Markets): a called-early MLCC cycle — "we identified an improvement in the multilayer ceramic capacitor cycle before it was broadly reflected in market expectations," and, critically, on the right driver: not consumer-electronics restocking but "higher-value components used in AI servers, data centers, advanced driver-assistance systems, and electric vehicles." Utilisation and mix improved together, confirming a cycle "broader and more durable than a conventional consumer recovery." (Yahoo symbol 009150.KS — the Seoul listing.)2026-AUG-03
0700.HKTencent Holdings (HKEX: 700)Fund pitch (AUG-03 SSR compilation, Vision Capital Fund): "China's most dominant and embedded internet company" — Weixin/WeChat at 1.4bn monthly users taking "roughly 76% of social app time" inside an ecosystem that takes "about 55% of all mobile time in China"; also the world's largest games company by revenue (Riot, Epic, Supercell). "It is a super-app no company has replicated. WhatsApp, PayPal, Instagram, Uber, Amazon, and your bank in one app you never leave." On AI: "Tencent was seen as slow in generative AI. That was timing, not weakness," and its cross-device breadth suits agents better than a centralized rival. The model — 10/12/14% revenue growth, 30/32.5/35% FCF margins, 15/20/25× EV/FCF and a 20% haircut on the investment portfolio — gives "a 15-32% CAGR, with a 24% midpoint." Founder Pony Ma owns 8.8%. (Yahoo symbol 0700.HK — the HKEX listing.)2026-AUG-03
2345.TWAccton Technology (Taipei: 2345)Fund pitch (AUG-03 SSR compilation, ClearBridge Investments Emerging Markets): the Taiwanese white-box switch maker as "a high-quality compounder" in an increasingly critical data-centre layer — strong ties to the few customers who buy switches at scale plus an "efficient, asset-light business model," with AI traffic shortening the upgrade cycle "at attractive valuations." Bought alongside Elite Material. (Yahoo symbol 2345.TW — the Taipei listing.)2026-AUG-03
2408.TWNanya Technology (Taipei: 2408)The second leg of the four-times-earnings memory trade (AUG-17) — "we bought SK Hynix, we bought the DRAM ETF, we bought CoreWeave, we bought Nanya, and just for a trade, not for long-term." A Taipei-listed DRAM maker; sized and treated as a tactical dislocation buy, not a cycle position.2026-AUG-17
5802.TSumitomo Electric Industries (Tokyo: 5802)Fund pitch (AUG-03 SSR compilation, Artisan Partners Global Equity): an electrification-bottleneck buy — exposure to "several areas of constrained infrastructure supply, including high-voltage power cables, optical fiber and connectivity products for data centers" and EV components. The scarcity is a queue: "high-voltage cable capacity has become increasingly valuable as utilities and renewable energy developers compete for long-dated supply," with grid and subsea projects the delivery mechanism. (Yahoo symbol 5802.T — the Tokyo listing.)2026-AUG-03
6146.TDisco Corporation (Tokyo: 6146)Fund pitch (AUG-03 SSR compilation, Buffalo Funds International): a 2.17% top-ten holding kept for exposure "to secular trends… at least partially insulated" from macro risk — AI, electrification and defence — screened on "consistent and strong free cash flow" and "returns above the cost of capital." The precision dicing/grinding tools sit in every advanced-packaging and HBM stack; note the letter excerpt is portfolio commentary rather than a company write-up. (Yahoo symbol 6146.T — the Tokyo listing.)2026-AUG-03
AAUCAllied GoldA wide ~34% merger-arb — Zijin Mining's all-cash C$44/US$32 bid vs a ~$23 stock; wide on outstanding Chinese approvals (July 29 outside date), West-Africa jurisdiction risk (Mali/Ivory Coast/Ethiopia), a Q1 $58M loss + Kurmuk capex, and a 20% gold drop; but back to its pre-deal price → "risk-reward quite decent."SA · STK · FA2026-JUL-05
ABTAbbott LaboratoriesEarnings beat — Abbott Labs +11% on strong results (rev +13% YoY to $12.6B, beat ~$12.54B) across devices, diagnostics, established pharma and nutrition after several lackluster quarters. (The report's "AVT" = Abbott, not Avnet.)QT · SA · STK · FA2026-JUL-19
ABUSArbutus BiopharmaThe week's featured executable special situation, in a name already long from ~$2 (AUG-30) — Arbutus launched a modified Dutch auction self-tender for up to $230M of stock at a $5.00-$5.75 clearing price, funded in part by the $178M net proceeds of the Moderna patent settlement. The trade is the odd-lot priority provision: "shareholders owning 99 shares in every brokerage… who tender their entire position are exempt from proration," repeatable per account ("if you have 10 brokers, you can own 99 shares in each"). Off a ~$5.07-5.20 entry that is ~43¢ a share at a $5.50 clear; the deck prices the full distribution at −1.8% at the floor and +12.9% at the cap. Expires September 29 at 5pm ET, settles October 2; the only risk is a clear at the $5.00 lower bound — "but at least you know what your downside is." Found by the in-house special-situations screener.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-30
ACAir CanadaOdd-lot Dutch tender arbitrage (SEP-13) — a C$800M substantial issuer bid at C$29-33 (he says 29-34) expiring September 24, against a C$27.53 close: "the minimum you would make is 5%," likely clearing near the floor. The edge is the odd-lot provision — "priority allocation without proration for holders of less than 99 shares," replicable per brokerage account (~C$27,000 across 10 accounts) — funded by cash from the Aeroplan transaction. "Mostly for small traders," and only for accounts not subject to Canadian withholding tax.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-SEP-13
AEMAgnico Eagle MinesSSR Hold — quality at full price: $187 target (+12%), 1.0x P/NAV, and the highest implied gold among his miners ($3,576 levered / $4,162 unlevered).QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-17 · 2026-JUN-2620
AGIAlamos GoldNew gold special situation — a cheap ~$15B mid-cap miner whose 19% Toronto plunge on Young-Davidson earthquakes overshot the ~4–6% warranted hit (Island Gold, 60%+ of NAV, untouched); ~8× FY2 P/E, net cash ~$500M, ~65% upside to $50 in 1–2 yrs. Bought Canadian, doubling via US shares (~$30).QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-17 · 2026-AUG-09 · 2026-JUL-16 · 2026-JUL-12 · 2026-JUN-28 · 2026-JUN-26 · 2026-JUN-214.1
AGNCAGNC InvestmentThe fixed-to-float preferred archetype — AGNC prefs reset from ~7% fixed to SOFR+4/5 (~9%); with agency-MBS spreads near post-COVID wides (~6.4%), keep holding/adding the prefs and higher-quality commons over low-yielding IG.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-JUL-26 · 2024-NOV-1015
ANETArista NetworksFund pitch (AUG-03 SSR compilation, Brown Advisory Large-Cap Sustainable Growth): the software-defined case for AI networking — the proprietary EOS operating system across an open Ethernet architecture delivers better telemetry, automation and total cost of ownership, making Arista "a structural share gainer in networking" with "over 20% revenue growth and peer-leading profitability for years to come." Initiated into temporary weakness on transitory supply-chain concerns.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-03
APAAPA CorporationFund pitch (AUG-03 SSR compilation, Hotchkis & Wiley Value Opportunities): a free-cash-flow-yield discount screen on an unloved Permian/Egypt E&P whose shares fell "as oil retreated due to optimism about a resolution to the conflict in Iran." Favourable gas price differentials plus "underappreciated reinvestment opportunities in Suriname, Egypt, and potentially Alaska"; the bear case ("shorter Permian resource life") is named and argued to be already in the price, against an investment-grade balance sheet and a discount to peers.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-0323
APGEApogee TherapeuticsArb-book housekeeping — Apogee Therapeutics received HSR clearance, "so no antitrust risk there"; the regulatory leg of its deal is retired.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-09
APPAppLovinGrowth add — "we're adding to our growth position in AppLovin," ~50% upside: strong adoption of its mobile/e-commerce ad engine as it enters a new vertical, and with so many new e-commerce platforms the business is "not really AI-disruptible." The valuation model is deck page 43 (saved with the 2026-JUL-26 call).QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-17 · 2026-AUG-16 · 2026-AUG-09 · 2026-AUG-02 · 2026-JUL-261.3
ARISAris Water Solutions"Eris" in the call — Aris Water Solutions, the ~$1.3B Permian produced-water recycler flagged Aug 2024; +40–50% on real demand, beat earnings, sold in the low 20s.QT · SA · STK · FA2024-NOV-10
ASSTAsasta (ASST) PreferredA cleaner crypto-pref than MSTR's — Asasta has no debt, only prefs — trading at a ~15% yield, buyable in the low 80s; likes it but "wouldn't be too aggressive" with war fear threatening another crypto selloff.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-JUN-28
ASTSAST SpaceMobileAlso pitched long in the AUG-03 fund-letter compilation (Crossroads Capital) — a direct contradiction of the house short: FCC commercial authorisation for up to 248 satellites, ~$3.7B pro-forma liquidity "more than enough… without going back to the capital markets," stacked launches making the math "multiplicative" (12 in orbit, ~45 targeted early 2027), 60+ MNOs covering 3bn subscribers, and a $30M SDA prime contract where "AST remains the only bidder on Earth with demonstrated capability." Singh's own view is unchanged: New short — ~$32B EV on $84M sales (~400×; ~162× even on believed-2027 EBITDA); full launch risk via Blue Origin (New Glenn exploded → 3–6 mo delay), 90% of revenue uncontracted, a satellite written off at ~7× marketed unit cost.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-03 · 2026-JUN-14
AVAVAeroVironmentQ&A — "I like AVAV more than JOBY"; a defense-drone name Singh prefers to the cash-burning eVTOL story among the beaten-down momentum stocks.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-JUL-190.7
AVGOBroadcomAlso pitched long in the AUG-03 fund-letter compilation (Baron Global Durable Advantage ETF): bought into the post-earnings sell-off on "one of the most durable and formidable competitive moats in the AI infrastructure buildout" — vertical integration by customers is "only a bear narrative at this stage" because ASICs now demand "extreme co-design of compute, memory, input/output on dies, and networking fabrics" — evidenced by the Google TPU agreement extended to 2031, OpenAI's Jalapeño taped out in nine months, and a multi-year Apple ASIC deal. Singh's own read: The clean read-through from Nvidia's guide, stated twice (AUG-30) — "based on Nvidia's outlook, you would think that Broadcom would beat and raise its outlook as well"; "we're optimistic for Broadcom results this week, but we'll see." The custom-silicon evidence is his own: OpenAI's internal testing showed its Broadcom-built Jalapeño (elsewhere "Palomino") inference chip beating Nvidia's GB300 on throughput per watt and latency at 700W, deploying later this year — benchmarked against GB300, not Vera Rubin. The offset he keeps beside it: Broadcom is one of the seven names inside the $3.1T of hyperscaler off-balance-sheet arrangements, and per Goldman's Delta One desk "NVDA/Broadcom CDS has widened materially as the market focuses on AI financing backstops." Prior (AUG-23) — the credit market pricing the AI build-out through it — reportedly seeking more than $60B of financing tied to its latest AI deal, with the full package potentially nearing $100B ($60-70B senior secured plus $30B junior), "which resulted in a huge spike in its CDS." The insurance premium on its debt, not the equity, is the tell. Also the alarming link in the $35B "Big Sky" SPV — gives a residual-value guarantee on $30B of Anthropic chip-collateral debt (chips it co-makes with Google), effectively financing its own revenue; weak equity reflects the risk.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-SEP-07 · 2026-AUG-30 · 2026-AUG-23 · 2026-AUG-17 · 2026-AUG-03 · 2026-JUL-12 · 2026-JUN-14
BBarrick MiningA core gold long held into earnings — "Barrick Gold, where we own a position, ticker B, is reporting pre-market on Monday"; sits with the AGI/KGC adds made on the turn in Chinese gold-ETF flows (14 straight days of inflows) and continued central-bank demand. (Earlier SSR calls carried the same company under the old GOLD symbol.)QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-17 · 2026-AUG-09
BABAAlibaba GroupNow raising capital like a US hyperscaler (AUG-23) — an HK$80B (~$10.2B) Hong Kong share placement to fund AI infrastructure. The policy catalyst behind the exposure was restated off July's credit data: new loans fell, "only the third monthly decline this century and more than three times worse than expected… which I think is going to result in some sort of a Chinese stimulus announced later this year." Prior: Q&A — Kimi's (Moonshot) compute runs on Alibaba for now, "which should be very good for Alibaba's demand" as Chinese open-model usage scales.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-23 · 2026-AUG-16 · 2026-JUL-19
BASOBaso CorpNew AUG-16 negative-enterprise-value watch — a $40M market cap against $38M of net cash, i.e. buying the cash at a discount with the business attached. The gate that matters is cleared: management "unwound a money losing IT business" and sold [NetWolves] for $14M, so the cash is no longer melting. He splits it as ~30c of net cash plus 12c of business value per share.QT · SA · STK2026-AUG-16
BBGIBeasley Broadcast GroupFund pitch (AUG-03 SSR compilation, Kingdom Capital Advisors KCA Value Composite): a capital-structure alignment trade in a wrecked radio operator (stock −90% from its ten-year peak, notes at 25-30 cents). A distressed buyer exchanged the notes at 50% of face — cutting net debt by nearly $100m — but attached a trigger: "if they don't pay it off the new debt holders will take control of 95% of the outstanding stock," which "creates a strong incentive for the Beasley family to monetize valuable assets to avoid losing control." Real estate and licences could support "up to approximately $200 per share after repayment," explicitly contingent on "asset-sale timing, execution, and market conditions." Built under $6/share in April.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-03
BIDUBaiduHeld on undervaluation into a policy catalyst (AUG-16) — reporting Tuesday, and "we think the Chinese tech stocks are undervalued and there will be a stimulus announced later this year." Paired with Alibaba as the China-stimulus expression.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-SEP-07 · 2026-AUG-16
BLZEBackblazeA beat-and-raise plus a transformational contract — Backblaze +50% pre-market on revenue $42.7M vs $39M, B2B cloud storage $26.6M vs $23.9M and EBITDA $12.8M vs $8.9M, alongside a new $335M five-year strategic agreement with CoreWeave that "means its earnings could be even higher." Open question: "we still have to investigate what that 335 million is."QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-09
BTBTBit DigitalNAV special situation (added ~30 bps) — an ex-Bitcoin miner (now cash + ETH) that owns 70% of debt-free White Fiber (WYFI), whose $1.5B market cap dwarfs BTBT's ~$790M EV → a ~43-44% discount to NAV that closes as WYFI hits its EBITDA targets.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-16 · 2026-AUG-09 · 2026-JUN-28
BTGB2GoldSSR Buy — $7 target (+63%): the cheapest P/NAV in his book at 0.4x and 9.5x 2026E P/E, discounting the high ($2,195/oz AISC) cost profile too hard.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-JUN-263.1
BWBabcock & WilcoxA speculative power-equipment long half-realised into the AUG-10 print: revenue $319.7M (+130% y/y), net income $14M against a −$60M loss, FY26 EBITDA target raised to $80-105M, a $50M buyback, bookings +38%, and the number that matters — backlog +533% to $2.6B against a >$14B global pipeline, plus another 1 GW of Siemens Energy steam turbines for data-centre projects. "Up 40% in the pre-market where we trimmed half of the position" — the windfall banked, the multi-year backlog kept.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-17 · 2026-AUG-16
BWMXBetterware de MexicoThe featured special situation (2026-JUL-26) — a Mexican direct-selling household-goods group where operating earnings surge while the multiple shrinks: EBITDA ~2.0B pesos (2024) → ~4.3B (2027E) with NTM estimates +50% in a year while EV/EBITDA fell 30% to 3.8x 2027E; >80% EBITDA-to-FCF conversion (~3B pesos on an ~11B cap), an 8.6% dividend for a 26th straight quarter, and Tupperware LatAm adding 11% of revenue / 16% of EBITDA in its first consolidated month (pro-forma EPS +36%, leverage back to 1.6x, 2026 guidance raised from 4.8% to 18-22%). Cheap on three temporary discounts: the Wall-Street direct-selling discount (3-6x on DTC networks), EM/FX optics, and M&A digestion.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-JUL-26
CCitigroupThe large-cap value rate beneficiary, to buy on pullbacks (AUG-23) — $165 price target on a bank at ~9.5× forward and under 1.2× tangible book against Goldman at 14-15× and Morgan Stanley at ~16.5×, "still like a 50% discount… the deepest discount for money center mega banks." Jane Fraser's balance-sheet clean-up and the wealth-management build supply the self-help; the macro supplies the entry: "we normally wouldn't be buying this, but if you think that interest rates are going to stay high, banks should benefit" — so add into the high-rate market pullback itself.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-23
CFTRCFTR preferredsIncome add to the preferred/baby-bond ballast — bought the CFTR preferreds at "over a 9% yield." The issuer is not named on the call (the report's "Consolidated Edison" gloss is unsupported by the transcript).SA · STK2026-AUG-09
CRMSalesforceBuyback case study (not a buy) — ~$55B repurchased over three years incl. a March $25B debt-funded accelerated buyback (~103M shares at once), and the market ignored it; shows how out-of-favor software is as funds crowd into semis.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-30 · 2026-JUN-212.9
CRNXCrinetics PharmaceuticalsArb leg retired (AUG-16) — "CRNX also received Austrian anti-trust approval overnight," one of the milestone clearances tracked on the weekly special-situations page.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-16
CRWDCrowdStrike HoldingsThe cleanest evidence that security is not the software being disrupted (AUG-30) — "CrowdStrike was a cleaner beat" on a company-record $333M of net new ARR, up 51% y/y, with Falcon Flex ARR more than doubling; revenue $1.47B vs $1.44B, adjusted EPS $0.31 vs $0.29, FCF $377M (+33%), total ARR $5.84B (+25%), FY27 EPS guided $9.21 vs $9.05, and the shares up ~20% on the week. Management called it the best quarter in company history and cited a Mythos-driven tailwind as "AI adoption increasingly needs security at scale" — every agent deployed is another identity and another attack surface to monitor.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-30
CRWVCoreWeaveA data-center-delay beneficiary — with live capacity and secured power it earns premium lease rates while ~50% of 2026 / ~80% of 2027 builds haven't broken ground; still a circular-financing GPU pass-through longer term.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-17 · 2026-AUG-16 · 2026-AUG-09 · 2026-AUG-02 · 2026-JUL-19 · 2026-JUN-21 · 2026-JUN-11

CSL.AXCSL Limited (ASX: CSL)Fund pitch (AUG-03 SSR compilation, Brown Advisory Global Value Select): quality finally on a value multiple — a business they "hadn't expected to find its way onto the kind of valuation we are willing to underwrite" until "a series of external headwinds and self-inflicted mistakes" (the Vifor acquisition, plasma demand, US vaccine sentiment) let them pay a low multiple for "one of the strongest biopharma businesses globally." The economics are structural: the world's largest plasma-products business earns "the industry's most attractive economics because of a wider portfolio of proteins sold" per donation. CVXChevronNamed SEP-07 as the durable Venezuela franchise: "Chevron is finalizing a deal that will significantly expand its Venezuela footprint… adding two giant oil fields in the Orinoco belt… It has a first mover advantage. And we think Chevron will continue to be the biggest player in Venezuela going forward." Reinforced by the published US-Venezuela deal terms — a 35% US government equity stake at zero cost, rights to 20% of production at cost and first refusal on the rest — a structure that favours the incumbent operator already on the ground.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-SEP-07

DELLDell TechnologiesTop of a light earnings calendar, no view attached (AUG-30) — "the most important earnings next week on a go-forward basis are Dell on the AI side, Palo Alto Networks, cybersecurity." The reason to watch it is the pass-through question: whether Nvidia's 15%+ server price increases and memory-cost inflation are being absorbed or passed on at the system level.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-SEP-07 · 2026-AUG-30
DPM.TODundee Precious Metals (TSX: DPM)SSR Buy — C$70 target (+56%): the lowest implied gold at NAV in his coverage ($2,130 levered), 9.1x 2026E P/E, 8.9% FCF yield.SA · STK · FA2026-JUN-26
DUKDuke EnergyThe quality anchor of the preferred book rather than an equity idea (AUG-16). Asked whether preferreds face a 2013-style 10% taper tantrum if the 30-year hits 5.5% and the 10-year 5%, he segments by issuer: "a 3 to 5% type sell off in the riskiest prefs. And then for the more stable ones like Duke Energy, etc., probably less" — a regulated utility's dividend being about as reliable as a corporate payment gets. He also expects a policy backstop, with Bessent forcing a pull-back at those levels.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-16

EPAMEPAM SystemsFund pitch (AUG-03 SSR compilation, White Falcon Capital Partner Strategy): the compilation's most self-critical entry — "the biggest detractor this quarter… there is sometimes no difference between being early and being wrong." De-rated to ~4× EV/EBITDA and 7× P/E on a net-cash balance sheet as enterprises delay transformation projects, which they call "a timing rather than a structural issue" because "the real bottleneck is no longer model development but enterprise deployment and integration" — the forward-deployed engineering organisation EPAM spent decades building. External marker: peer Nagarro acquired at ~9.1× EV/EBITDA, "more than double EPAM's valuation."QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-03
EQHEquitable HoldingsFund pitch (AUG-03 SSR compilation, Harris Associates U.S. Large Value): a business-mix change the market has not repriced — "repositioning away from spread-driven insurance earnings toward nonregulated fee businesses, which now places more than half of distributable cash flow in capital-light segments," against structural demand from an ageing population. The pending Corebridge merger is read as "a merger of equals" that adds scale and is accretive. EVCEntravision CommunicationsSEP-13 — the analyst DCF is out (Excel shared): CAPM cost of equity on the current 10-year with a 4% risk premium, FCFF to terminal value less net debt — "these are not perfect calculations, but this implies roughly 59% upside," with the caveat that as a small cap it will fall harder than large caps in a true risk-off. Prior: the SEP-07 featured value special situation: a Spanish-language broadcaster that has quietly become an ad-tech company — ATS segment revenue +230% to $182M and operating profit +673% to $40M in Q2 2026 — sold off on a guided sequential Q3 decline ("normal customer spending timing") that cut consensus to $18-25M a quarter. On his $100-115M 2026 adjusted EBITDA it trades at 7.5-8.5× forward against 12-15× for pure-play ad tech and 4-6× for legacy radio, with $83M of cash and a free option on high-margin political advertising through Hispanic-demographic stations in the states that decide the midterms. EWEdwards LifesciencesFund pitch (AUG-03 SSR compilation, Baron Asset Fund): a new position where three tailwinds move together in transcatheter aortic valve replacement — the market growing from $7B "to more than $10 billion as approved indications expand," Boston Scientific exiting TAVR and Medtronic releasing poor data (both ceding share), and Medicare policy widening the set of centres that can perform the procedure. The second S-curve is TMTT (mitral/tricuspid), "structurally much more complex" with an extremely high barrier, growing from $1.5B "to as much as $8 billion." 78% gross and 27% operating margins support low-double-digit revenue and mid-teens EPS compounding.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-03

The leading independent CFM56 MRO manufactures "green time" into modules that swap in days rather than months; Q1 adjusted EBITDA $325.6M with 270 modules refurbished (+96% YoY), and the model is migrating capital-light via Strategic Capital. GLDSPDR Gold SharesThe cleanest expression of the AUG-23 pain-threshold trade — gold's largest weekly gain in a year, GLD 370 → 420 with bullion ~$4,700/oz and silver ~$69, because a $4B-per-operation buyback (call it $15-30B across the window) is not a defence against a market that absorbed $742B of Treasury sales in a single week and a TBAC-flagged ~$1.45T funding gap: "precious metals are already looking past the flow and pricing the escalation path. The pitch rebuts the three fears that took them to 22× forward: stablecoins are "most relevant where cards are not the incumbent" (cross-border B2B, remittances, dollar savings); agentic commerce "should adopt, not replace" existing payment preferences and makes intent-verification, delegation limits and fraud recourse more valuable; and the routing/rate-cap proposals "have both stalled amid broad opposition" with "minimal impact" even if enacted.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-037.0

MUMicron TechnologyGenuinely two-sided for the first time (AUG-30), which is why the stance is Neutral. Against: Apple is evaluating DRAM from CXMT and NAND from YMTC for China-bound devices, taking Micron down 5% on the week on top of potential US chip sanctions and tariffs — "which is why memory underperformed AI overall" — and the report's own Potential Reductions list names Micron and SanDisk to trim on the Chinese capacity ramp. For: the same deck carries TrendForce's server DRAM +270% y/y, enterprise SSD +235% and HBM +70-140% by 2027 ("structurally bullish for the entire memory complex"), notes that Nvidia's $160B jump in commitments is "primarily related to procurement of memory… so memory goes brrr," and logs Trump praising Micron's $10B of new US AI research labs atop a $250B commitment. The reconciliation is which memory: the contracted, qualified, high-bandwidth end is sold out and repricing up; the commodity end is what a state-backed entrant can flood. Prior (AUG-23) — one of three companies holding the leverage over Nvidia: Nvidia raising AI-server prices 15%+ rather than absorbing memory inflation "shows how much leverage makers of memory chips like Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron have," with NAND and DRAM prices "parabolic." Corroborated the same week by a UBS buy rating "given price increases and future capacity additions" and a $10B Boise research-lab commitment inside $250B of planned US R&D and capex. Prior framing: Friday's −13% was an overvaluation reset (SOX P/E 17→28×), not a broken memory cycle (a SemiAnalysis note halved Vera Rubin DRAM); the only US-listed HBM4 supplier, with shortages still forecast.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-SEP-07 · 2026-AUG-30 · 2026-AUG-23 · 2026-AUG-17 · 2026-AUG-16 · 2026-AUG-09 · 2026-AUG-02 · 2026-JUL-26 · 2026-JUL-19 · 2026-JUL-12 · 2026-JUL-05 · 2026-JUN-28 · 2026-JUN-21 · 2026-JUN-14 · 2026-JUN-11 · 2026-JUN-07

NNDMNano DimensionA negative-enterprise-value watch, not yet a position — $433M cash, zero debt and a $340M market cap at ~$1.60 imply a −$80M EV against $2.10-2.25 of cash per share. Activist pressure produced a three-phase clean-up (Markforged sold to Stratasys for $42.5M, the AME/Fabrica lines for up to $12.5M, headcount cuts and an HQ lease termination removing $38M of commitments, lowering burn ~$25M), with phase three now weighing a sale, merger or capital return. The offsets: a $9.6M quarterly adjusted-EBITDA loss still erodes the cash, and management historically spent its hoard on acquisitions. NOKNokiaNew long on an optical SOTP, bought in the alerts (SEP-20) — "the biggest optical business that competes with Ciena… it trades so cheap… [because] it has a legacy mobile business." Ciena at ~50× trailing / ~36× forward EBITDA implies Nokia's optical unit alone is worth "around $13 a share" vs ~$10.68 (~20% upside); "not as interesting, but… one of the lower volatility AI names," and "it keeps announcing new contracts" (AI-RAN trials, the Microsoft agentic-AI deal). Prior: Q&A —"of all the AI names, probably the least interesting" and not first to rally, but ~30% of revenue (optical + IP networks) grows 10-12% and earnings could grow ~14% on Infinera synergies; JPM's €18 target is a rich 29x P/E, yet on a PEG basis "Nokia actually looks interesting" — a momentum-reversion name "to do more work on."QT · SA · STK · FA2026-SEP-20 · 2026-AUG-09 · 2026-JUL-19

Claros, founded February 2025, builds vertical power delivery and integrated voltage regulators that sit directly beside the AI accelerator, so the conversion happens next to the processor instead of across the board: "delivering thousands of amps to increasingly power-hungry processors at extremely high speed… reducing the distance power needs to travel." PRTHPriority Technology HoldingsSEP-13 — half harvested, with a published DCF. "We bought this in the low fives, we sold half of it above six" (over 15% profit) after two small activist funds lifted it, and "we will likely buy back if it sells off again" into the fives. The analyst model (Excel shared) values ~$200M of unlevered FCF at ~$2.6B even with a 2% small-cap WACC penalty — "about $21 a share" — which he discounts himself for AI/software risk: "it should probably trade at a discount to this $21, but it probably should not trade at 5.94." The lever is the majority-of-the-minority vote (the activists' 4% need ~16% more of the 40% independent float to block); the named flaw is the CEO's roll-ups (a $15M acquisition last month), which need no such vote. Realistic outcome: a bump to $9-10 "just to get you guys off my back," or a sale. Prior (AUG-30 revisit) — the activists' number marked down to an honest one. The structure is unchanged (Tom Priore owns ~56.5-58% and bid $6.00 at ~5.5× cash flow) and Steamboat Capital Partners plus Buckley Capital now hold a combined 4.1% pressing the special committee toward a published $17-19 — but "in reality, I think they'll get to 7 and a half to 8." Valuation: ~6× forward EV/EBITDA, ~8× trailing and 4-5× forward P/E, ~$950M of net debt at 3.8× leverage "covered by the EBITDA for now." He also underwrites the fall rather than dismissing it: B2B payables revenue +22% while gross profit fell 10% on interchange and mix, SG&A +21%, EBITDA guidance cut — "that's why the stock was down so much, not for no reason." The leverage is Delaware's MFW framework: without a strict majority-of-the-minority condition the special committee is the only defence, so raising the bid is cheaper than post-closing fiduciary litigation. KBW cut its target to $6.50, still above the market. Prior (AUG-23) — the starter position at $5.52 — a controlling-shareholder lowball to buy into rather than fight. Founder/CEO Thomas Priore (55-58% owner) bid $6.00-6.15 cash days after a soft print took the stock from $7 to $4.87, anchoring the offer between the pre-crash price and the post-earnings low at only ~5.5× cash flow. The business earns $91M of FCF on a ~$460M cap (a ~20% levered FCF yield) against ~$920M of net debt (~4× EBITDA). Buckley Capital's sum-of-the-parts says $15-20 and Steamboat joined the objection, so the bid is a structural floor and a bump to $7-8.50 is 25-50% upside — "quite asymmetric risk reward," positioned to buy more.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-SEP-13 · 2026-AUG-30 · 2026-AUG-23
PYPLPayPal HoldingsThe bid died and the trade survived it (AUG-30) — "Stripe was reportedly interested in PayPal. It said it is no longer interested after the board learned a higher bid." What's left is a range, not a thesis: bought 51.65, sold 54.40, closed $53, "we'll buy back close to 50 again. This is one trade you could do several times." The floor is cash — under 8× forward earnings, $7B of free cash flow (a teens FCF yield), net cash, and a business that "can effectively buy itself in less than 10 years" — the cap is share loss to Block, so his published model (the xlsx saved with this call, uploaded live to the SSR Q&A tab) marks it at $57 versus a Street $70-85, targeting a 10× multiple rather than 8-9×. Q2 beat (revenue ~$8.68B vs $8.47B, adjusted EPS $1.38, Venmo volume +14%). Honest verdict in the middle of the range: "PayPal is not incredibly interesting here." Prior framing — merger-arb Positive — +20% on a Stripe/Advent ~$60 all-cash bid (28% premium; $53B / ~8x fwd EBITDA); ~$6B FCF next year = a ~10% yield to the deal and 8x EBITDA is ~1-1.5x below its 3-yr average → a likely topping bid to the mid-60s. TTWOTake-Two InteractiveAn overreaction call (SEP-07): "Take-Two fell 7% as GTA leaks continued ahead of the November 19th release. UUnity SoftwareThe AUG-16 featured long, with a published model in the archive folder — a real-time-3D engine duopoly with Unreal under 60% of top mobile titles (70% of the top 1,000) whose ad-tech half now generates most of revenue: Vector, the AI/ML mobile ad platform, is +23% q/q and past a $1B run rate two quarters early on the day-28 ROAS rollout, EBITDA margins are at 27% after the Bromberg reset and the ironSource/Supersonic clean-up, and contribution margin is 82-83%. "The whole AI risk is overblown there" — accumulate $35-40, base case $55, upside $71, "set to frankly even compete with AppLovin." Risks: Axon 2.0 and a post-run-up multiple, hence buy the pullback.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-16
UBERUber TechnologiesInsider buying on a name he calls cheap in the 60s-70s — a watch to add (SEP-20): CEO Khosrowshahi and President Andrew Macdonald bought ~$15M of stock in the first two weeks of September with the shares near the year's lows — "that doesn't necessarily mean that it's a buy… we didn't add much of Uber… if they continue to buy… we might increase some exposure there." Prior: two open-market insider buys on a name he calls cheap (SEP-13) — the President/COO bought 70,000 shares for $5.3M and CEO Dara Khosrowshahi 141,000 for ~$10M at ~$71, his first open-market purchase since May 2022 at $26.73 (the shares have nearly tripled since): "we've talked about Uber being cheap… the market was quite excited about the two big insider purchases." UHAL-BU-Haul Holding (non-voting)Fund pitch (AUG-03 SSR compilation, Hotchkis & Wiley Focused Global Value): "the dominant DIY moving and self-storage company in North America," nearly 22,000 locations, with the majority of profit from "complex, hard-to-replicate one-way truck rentals" where "its extensive network and sophisticated pricing model" have historically earned "sustainably higher returns than competitors." Two more legs: self-storage with "improving occupancy and below-market rates," and real estate that "add[s] optionality at a low valuation multiple." The re-rating driver is an accounting distortion clearing — the market "began to look through elevated COVID-era fleet depreciation to normalizing earnings, declining capex, and a pivot toward shareholder returns." The River fleet is "a customer-acquisition engine for the faster-growing Ocean segment," where it fields "the youngest fleet in luxury cruising." VOLO.STVolati AB (Stockholm: VOLO)Fund pitch (AUG-03 SSR compilation, REQ): a post-spin-off sum-of-the-parts — a Swedish serial acquirer that "since 2003… has compounded shareholder capital by building industrial businesses without issuing common equity," now mispriced after the 1:1 Salix spin (Volati SEK 24.5, Salix SEK 64, against SEK 89 pre-spin). Post-separation: SEK 4.3bn revenue and SEK 303m EBITA across five platforms, "of which Ettiketto accounts for roughly 75% of earnings," and "Ettiketto alone could ultimately be worth as much as Volati's current market capitalization." The label roll-up has the compounder markers — fragmented market, recurring demand, a proven integration playbook that took the 2012-acquired Swedish business "from the low teens to above 20%" margins. Trades at EV/EBITA 15.5× with 2.9× net debt plus preference shares; the mispricing is that the market values it "as a cyclical industrial company, while we increasingly view Ettiketto as a high-quality compounder embedded inside one." Ventas guides to 15-17% same-store NOI growth with the acquisition budget raised to USD3bn (Welltower ~19%): "in the world of real estate, these growth numbers are market-leading." The structural point is ownership form — "by owning and operating their communities, rather than purely leasing them, the benefit of stronger operating conditions accrues directly to them." WDCWestern DigitalAlso pitched long in the AUG-03 fund-letter compilation (Alger Focus Equity Fund), on supply discipline rather than demand: "the HDD industry is highly consolidated, with only two scaled manufacturers," now majority-cloud, and participants have "emphasized capital discipline — prioritizing higher areal density (i.e., more terabytes per drive) rather than adding significant unit capacity — which supports a healthier supply/demand balance and improved profitability," already visible in margins above prior guidance. Singh's own handling: Memory-complex trading position — +8% in the Jul-21 spike (with SanDisk/SK Hynix/Micron) on Morgan Stanley's 25% memory-price call; trimmed into the spike and added back at the end of the week, held into its earnings week.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-03 · 2026-JUL-26
WELLWelltowerFund pitch (AUG-03 SSR compilation, Baron Opportunity Fund): the senior-housing demographic plus a deliberate re-categorisation — "while Welltower screens as a real estate business, we view it as the intersection of hardware, real estate, and software," where the proprietary operating platform "creates meaningful structural upside to both operating margins and occupancy" through analytics and amenity-based pricing, with "early monetization" of the data platform underway and technology executives deliberately recruited. Backdrop: the 80-plus population compounding 4-5% a year against 2% post-GFC, with supply constrained by collapsed construction starts and a "five-plus year entitlement and build timeline." AnthropicAnthropic (private)The pacing letter and a valuation now treated as a ceiling (SEP-13) — Amodei called for an industry-wide slowdown of frontier development after the OpenAI–Hugging Face agent-swarm incident, with METR-style external audits, backed by Altman and Musk. Singh grades it "sentiment risk, not fundamental risk" ("he does not touch the numbers at all") but awkward before a reported ~$2T October IPO — "you have to take Dario more seriously" than Altman, whose company isn't listing — expects the IPO "till October at the earliest, next year is the most likely," and doubts a mark above $1.7T soon; hence the SKM exit. The real risk: lab funding stalls → hyperscaler backlogs → capex. Prior: extraordinary growth against an unresolved pricing model into an October IPO (AUG-23): the run rate went $9B (end-2025) → $47B (May) → $65B+ (July) with $11.5B of quarterly revenue and positive operating income and EBITDA, and Citigroup has joined Morgan Stanley, Goldman and JPMorgan on the listing — but the flagship frontier model Fable 5 "has plateaued at roughly 11% of total corporate spend on Anthropic tools" as enterprises route work to cheaper tiers like Opus 5 and to open weights, which "challenges the assumption that technical capability leadership automatically translates into revenue." The $65B ARR also printed below the 75-80B other data implied, which JPMorgan blames for the tech-momentum reversal. GOOGLAlphabetThe lead exhibit in the big-tech bond paradox (AUG-23) — capex was funded by free cash flow "but that dried up. So now it's by issuing bonds. So Google issued a 100-year bond" at roughly 6%, paper that pays 200-300bp over Treasuries to buyers who do not believe Google is going bankrupt, so long-duration money leaves the sovereign long end for it. The paradox: the AI capex meant to grow the US out of $40T of debt is financed by taking money away from that debt. Separately, all Pixel phone, watch and earbud production moves out of China to Vietnam and India from 2027. IFX.DEInfineon Technologies (Xetra: IFX)Fund pitch (AUG-03 SSR compilation, Harding Loevner International Developed Markets) — and the compilation's only two-handed argument, recorded as Neutral on the fund's own wording. The constructive half: every manufacturer "remain[s] committed to expanding capacity" funded by record profits, and "statements of disciplined capacity growth from the three largest memory makers suggest that prices and margins could stay higher for longer than in past decades" (Samsung vowing restraint, Micron tying capex to demand, SK hynix funding lithography from ADR proceeds). The reversal: the same demand "is now incentivizing capacity additions that should eventually bring utilization into better balance. For the companies, such investments may be rational. For the stocks, it could prove more complicated. Scarcity has been a powerful driver of recent earnings growth and investor enthusiasm. If capacity catches up, the balance of enthusiasm may shift as well" — a direct challenge to the other eight memory/AI-hardware pitches in the same document. NVDANVIDIAAt the end of the funding chain he worries about (SEP-13) — the pacing letters change "nothing… [in] the near-term capex number. No hyperscaler guide has moved," but if the labs can't raise, "how are they going to support Microsoft, Amazon, and Google's cloud backlogs?… who's going to buy Nvidia GPUs so that it grows earnings 30% every year" — and he warned semis could sell off while energy rallies. At Goldman's TMT conference Nvidia said "the bottleneck has basically moved from chips to power." Prior: the best quarter a public company has printed, and a stock that couldn't hold it (AUG-30) — $96.2B revenue (+106%), $89B data centre, ~$60B net income, commitments $119B → $279B, gross margin 75%, Q3 guided $108B, and a CFO guide of ~70% revenue growth through FY28 against 47% consensus, adding a record $453B of market cap in one session. It then gave it back on Warsh, on White House chip tariffs extending to servers/laptops/consoles ("horrible timing"), and on the structural point: "a lot of Nvidia's growth is actually being financed by itself… through these circular capital arrangements," with part of the guide "contingent on financing for Anthropic doing an IPO in October and OpenAI securing financing" — Nvidia's own CFO puts balance-sheet-supported AI-lab demand at ~25% of next year's business. His qualifier is the discipline: "it's not the base case, but it's still a big uncertainty." Valuation isn't the issue — Raymond James notes it trades below 15× CY27 earnings versus the S&P at 18.6×. Prior (AUG-23) — pricing power that reads as a warning: Nvidia is raising AI-server prices 15%+ on Vera Rubin and Grace Blackwell systems because memory costs are soaring — and "the inability of the industry's most dominant company to hold the line on prices or absorb the growing costs shows how much leverage makers of memory chips like Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron have." Hence the call that a 75% gross margin is "likely a peak margin," and that the hikes "add complexity" to a build-out already fighting power, permitting and labour delays. Still the hub of the round-tripping (it invests in the customers who buy its GPUs) and still underowned by active funds.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-SEP-20 · 2026-SEP-13 · 2026-SEP-07 · 2026-AUG-30 · 2026-AUG-23 · 2026-AUG-17 · 2026-AUG-16 · 2026-AUG-09 · 2026-AUG-02 · 2026-JUL-26 · 2026-JUL-05 · 2026-JUN-28 · 2026-JUN-14 · 2026-JUN-11

SPCXSpaceXAlso pitched long in the AUG-03 fund-letter compilation (Baron Global Opportunity Strategy) — the longest write-up in that document, published once the NDA lapsed on "the largest initial public offering in history, raising more than $85 billion": reusability (boosters flown up to 35 times, so "3 boosters for 100 launches") took launch from ~$20,000/kg to a tenth of that, Starlink's 12m subscribers attack a "$1.5 trillion connectivity market" where each 10 points of share is ~$150bn of revenue, and the new leg is AI hosting — $26bn of annualised revenue already contracted with Anthropic and Google, a 100,000-GPU cluster built in 122 days, and orbital data centres modelled at under $2.23bn of launch cost per GW against $10-15bn terrestrial five-year TCO. "This is THE company with N=1." Singh's own view is far more sceptical on price: Now public — closed ~$161 for a ~$2.1T cap on a 7% float, ~300× fwd EBITDA / ~120× sales ("running hot"); he owns the story ~half-price via SATS rather than buy the IPO directly.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-30 · 2026-AUG-09 · 2026-AUG-03 · 2026-AUG-02 · 2026-JUL-26 · 2026-JUL-19 · 2026-JUN-28 · 2026-JUN-21 · 2026-JUN-14 · 2026-JUN-11 · 2026-JUN-07

WBDWarner Bros. DiscoveryTraded around, not held to close (SEP-20) — the FCC approved Paramount's foreign financing ("one step closer") and the spread, after tightening to ~7%, is back at 10%: "if it widens past 10, we might add a little bit more after we sold… when they widen out a lot, you can buy them, when they shrink, you sell them… We've been in and out of Warner Brothers–Paramount like three times." Prior: the only large-cap arb held in size (SEP-13) — "the only one of these that we own in size is this Warner Brothers–Paramount, which has compressed from over 20%," while most new arb exposure goes to much smaller names. Prior: almost home, on a counterparty that just made it harder (AUG-30) — "Warner Brothers is now number two from number one. We're long that from a 20% arb spread. It's now only 7%." The week cut both ways: shares hit their highest since February on reports of settlement talks, and Paramount is visibly working on remedies (it costed out selling HGTV and the Food Network, decided against, and is weighing separate distribution agreements with cable operators for different parts of its TV empire) — but California AG Rob Bonta cancelled Monday's meeting outright, accusing Paramount of leaking the substance of the talks and misrepresenting them, "demonstrating a lack of good faith," with no new date set and the state AGs preparing to demand cable-channel divestitures plus a studio kept separate. Prior (AUG-23) — most of the way home — "we were adding when it was a 20% spread, now it's only 8.8." The re-rating came from the constituency whose objection the antitrust case rested on: Cinema United reversed and joined the three largest theatre chains in supporting the Paramount-Skydance merger, after extracting wide-release commitments, a cap on exhibition fees and continued library access. California's AG still says the deal "breaks the law," "but the market's looking past that." Delay now pays the target — a $7M/day ticking fee past October 1, with Paramount demanding the 12-state coalition post a $1.9B bond to cover it.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-SEP-20 · 2026-SEP-13 · 2026-SEP-07 · 2026-AUG-30 · 2026-AUG-23 · 2026-AUG-17 · 2026-AUG-16 · 2026-AUG-09 · 2026-AUG-02 · 2026-JUL-26 · 2026-JUL-19 · 2026-JUL-12 · 2026-JUN-28 · 2026-JUN-21 · 2026-JUN-14 · 2026-JUN-11 · 2026-JUN-07

The split: DICK'S comps +4.9% against Foot Locker pro-forma comps −3.6%. Prior: the clean short of a hawkish Fed (AUG-30) — small caps shed ~140bp on the week as the two-year spiked, with Dan Niles framing it as "a hawkish Warsh on Friday led to a bear flattening of the yield curve and a sell-off in the IWM." The mechanism he restates every time: "the Russell has a lot — half the companies are unprofitable. So if interest rates go up and they have debt, that affects them more than large-cap companies." Singh's own framing: One of the five hyperscalers now funding AI capex with debt rather than cash flow (AUG-23) — Meta and Oracle have issued long-dated bonds at 6-8%, 200-300bp above Treasuries, which is the substitution that pulls pension and insurance money out of the sovereign long end; and one of the customers absorbing Nvidia's 15%+ server price increase. Huh." Being in the right industry does not compensate for not being able to rely on the disclosures. SNDKSanDiskNow on the reduce list (AUG-30) — the name most directly in the path of Chinese NAND. Apple is evaluating "NAND from YMTC" for China-bound products, taking SanDisk down 6% on the week on top of potential US chip sanctions and tariffs, and the report's Potential Reductions section says explicitly to reduce exposure to traditional commodity memory suppliers (Micron, SanDisk) facing margin compression from the Chinese capacity ramp and hardware-tariff friction. The distinction that matters within memory: the specified, contracted, high-bandwidth end (where Nvidia's $279B of commitments sit) versus the commodity end a state-supported entrant can flood on price per bit — SanDisk sits nearer the second, which is why it fell furthest on the same headline. Prior framing — a short-term trade: Argus cutting SanDisk to hold caused a temporary selloff, "but short-term, SanDisk and Micron are both buys"; a flash-memory beneficiary (spun from Western Digital) caught in the AI washout.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-30 · 2026-AUG-17 · 2026-AUG-16 · 2026-AUG-09 · 2026-AUG-02 · 2026-JUL-26 · 2026-JUL-19

VLYValley National BancorpThe CRE short, as the hedge for a Fed hike (SEP-13) — commercial real estate "is benchmarked off SOFR, which is basically the same as the Fed funds rate," so a hike hits CRE lenders even if the 10-year falls. Valley has ~$30B of CRE in a ~$51B loan book (non-owner CRE ~329% of risk-based capital, down from 474% by selling "a lot of its good properties" and keeping the bad), fee income only 13% of revenue, an ACL below peers and heavier wholesale funding, yet trades near five-year highs (~$13.80 vs ~$6 in April 2023). WMTWalmartThe K-shape trade broke on its own print (AUG-23) — shares fell 8%, the worst day since May 2022, on the slowest US comparable-store sales growth in more than six years (2.6% against 3.7% expected). Because Walmart is where budget-constrained American households shop, that is the cleanest available read that the low- and middle-income consumer is pulling back, consistent with Goldman cutting second-half real consumer spending growth to 1-1.5%. The forward test he sets is whether Dollar General and Dollar Tree show the same. Prior framing — the K-shape winner (AUG-17) — with essentials 20-25% above pre-pandemic and the top 10% of consumers now doing ~60% of all spending (from ~30% two decades ago), middle-income households "are now shopping at places more like Walmart and Target, to save money. So, obviously Walmart's doing well" while undifferentiated brick-and-mortar suffers and tariffs bite.QT · SA · STK · FA2026-AUG-23 · 2026-AUG-17

Overall thesis

In one line: a special-situations house book — merger-arb, preferreds/baby bonds, spin-offs, IPO-unlock shorts and "own-the-scarce-input" AI longs — framed by late-cycle caution. Latest (SEP-20): the hike he did not expect was delivered — 25bp to 3.75-4.00%, Warsh's first move, "close to a certainty" after hot August CPI/PPI — and his read of why is the war: "I didn't think they would have to hike, but… the resurgence of the Iran war is what tipped them over." The dots show one more hike and 2% PCE not until 2029; markets price three; and the question he poses is the regime's: "What problem does the economy have that higher interest rates will solve? Higher rates cannot fix oil prices" — so hikes either bite growth harder than last cycle or fail, leaving inflation "in the 3 to 3.5 range." The war reached Riyadh (and Yanbu); the Houthis took Perim Island and declared a Bab-el-Mandeb blockade; the East-West pipeline is out 3-6 weeks (2.5-2.7 mb/d); Saudi cancelled October crude to Europe ("Europeans could freeze"); spot VLCCs went "from… 50,000 a day to over a million"; the SPR hit 285M barrels — "I'm surprised the market is up." Yields broke out together (JGB 10-year 3.03%, Norway and Japan pulling "160 billion dollars of demand" from Treasuries, the UK suspending 20- and 30-year gilts) with stocks "the most expensive versus bonds… in 26 years" and only 36% of the S&P above its 50-day. The book bought what that regime cannot reprice: WAY on a sale process (bought after the pop faded; PE floor ~$31-33 at 14×, base "low 30s to mid-30s"), EXE at the year's lows on a 15% FCF yield (20bp starter, $80 / $129 / $152, "up seven down one," adding through March), NOK on a Ciena-comp optical SOTP (~$13 vs $10.68 — "not as interesting, but… one of the lower volatility AI names"), and a 13% income sleeve — PDO / PDI / PAX at ~5% discounts to NAV plus RWT / RWTQ — because "the long-term return outlook for bonds rivals that of stocks for the first time in about 25 years." ETN is "a very, very good company" held back to a sub-$400 entry; tankers (STNG, FRO, IMPP) are recast as a hedge on the war's length ("I wouldn't add them now as an outright long"); WBD is traded around at a 10% spread ("in and out… like three times"); SE is still an add at $100; and the AI pacing debate is printed three ways (Amodei/Altman/Nadella, Burry's "self-serving," Trump's hoax). Prior (SEP-13): the week the house view on the Fed capitulated to the tape — "I was not expecting a hike, but now it looks like there's a high probability of a hike" (CME 87%, after a 3.4% y/y headline CPI, a $22bn 30-year auction tailing at 5.308% and a Bessent long-end buyback capped at $6bn of which only $5.19bn found sellers) — framed as a trap: "if they hike, that's going to be very bad for commercial real estate… if they don't hike, the 10-year could go higher, which is going to be bad for tech. So you lose if you do, you lose if you don't." His terminal view stays below the desks' two hikes: "I personally think that this is going to be one and done… back to cutting sometime in 2027. But if the war extends, that gets thrown out the window" — and the war got worse: drones shut Saudi's 1,200km East-West pipeline (4-5 mb/d of Hormuz bypass), Saudi August output was already 6.2 mb/d, the lowest since 1990, Brent ~$108, diesel above $6 for the first time, the Oman GCC-Iran meeting postponed, tanker rates a record $800k/day, and White House aides bracing for a conflict "past January of 2029" ("oil could easily go to 120," with Robin Brooks' $95 elasticity case printed as the other side). The book was rebuilt around trades the tape cannot reach, "five live ideas" the screener surfaced: VLY shorted as the hike hedge because "commercial real estate is benchmarked off SOFR" (~329% CRE-to-capital, 13% fee income, "sold a lot of its good properties and kept a lot of the bad"); SKM exited at $38-40 from $19-20 once its 3.7M Anthropic shares were priced at a $1.7T mark, on the Amodei pacing letter he grades "sentiment risk, not fundamental risk" but whose funding chain he fears ("how are they going to support Microsoft, Amazon, and Google's cloud backlogs?"); long IJR / short IWM on index construction (40-45% of the Russell unprofitable, 30-45% floating-rate debt); an Air Canada odd-lot Dutch tender at C$29-33 against C$27.53; RWT bought down to $3.21 into a convert-arb flush plus its ~11% baby bonds; RSVR in the low $9s under a $10.50 insider bid with a rival activist bidder; and published DCFs — EVC ~59% upside, PRTH $21 (half sold above $6 for 15%+). Passed: ROKU/FOXA at a 6.5% IRR ("I'm not going to borrow money to put on a silly spread like that"), KNTK until the doubled EBITDA is understood, and KO/MCD as defensives he is "not going to be buying." Prior (SEP-07): the week he tried to buy his way out of correlation. The opening sentence is the mandate: "what we are trying to do is add more event-driven names to the book that are less volatile when it comes to overall markets." Two arrive. EVC is a Spanish-language broadcaster that has quietly become an ad-tech company — ATS revenue +230% to $182M and operating profit +673% to $40M in Q2 — sold off because management guided that segment down sequentially into Q3 on "normal customer spending timing," cutting consensus to $18-25M a quarter and leaving it at 7.5-8.5× forward EBITDA on $100-115M for 2026, "moderately below media industry averages of 10 to 12 times," a discount to pure-play ad tech at 12-15× and a premium to legacy radio at 4-6×, with $83M of cash and a free option on high-margin political advertising because "its advertising spend should explode given its key Hispanic demographic in specific states that are the most important in the US when it comes to ad spending during the midterms" (the risk being the TelevisaUnivision affiliate contract expiring at year end). HIMX is "another very cheap name to play the AI tailwind… and frankly, you can hedge with any of the AI ETFs to take out the beta from that name" — a fabless Taiwanese designer with 40% global share of automotive display driver ICs whose WiseEye sensor is inside every Meta Ray-Ban, which beat ($227M, +14% q/q, 33.1% gross margin above guidance, four quarters of decline snapped) and guided up ($243-250M, +23.8% y/y at the midpoint, margin to 34%) and fell anyway: "its last quarter beat and its stock is down simply because of the AI sell off." Asked in Q&A where to add in digital infrastructure: "we're just waiting, and looking at less followed names like Himax." A third idea comes with its own timing caveat — WY as "a contrarian REIT pick," a 10.5-million-acre timberland REIT whose earnings "function as a call option on housing activity," at a 30-40% discount to private land NAV, where $10/MBF of lumber is $50M of annual EBITDA and the variable dividend targets 75-80% of free cash flow — but "I'm not as bullish on this one because the stock will not likely move too muchwe're early on Weyerhaeuser." The macro is the least comfortable it has been: Iran fired ballistic missiles at two US Navy warships and CENTCOM permanently disabled two Iranian crude tankers and destroyed a third (the MT Downey, the Stark 1 and the Kylo), shifting the campaign from "radar air defense sites" to "the Iranian oil economy" at a stated "three-for-two economic cost," with Hormuz exports at two-thirds of pre-war levels, WTI 92.64 / Brent 97.31, European gas +150% y/y, diesel cracks at a record $106/bbl on inventories 103 million barrels below normal — and a dated stalemate: "it's hard to see the situation changing much… at least after the Israeli elections October 27th and US midterm elections November 3rd… and then likely things could escalate after that." On rates the call is structural: "the 40-year bond bull market is over" — the 1981-2020 downtrend from a 15% apex to a 0.5% nadir broke out in 2022, and "return to normal" is the wrong frame because "we can't call those 2000 level yields normal." The consequences are already priced somewhere: US debt service at an annualised $1.2 trillion and 19-20% of tax revenue ("once you get above 30%, I think people will start panicking… once you get to 50%, you have to really depreciate the currency dramatically. That's when you start to see revolutions"), a four-year private-equity distribution drought, and $300-400B of deal interest with no new LBO supply — "which is one of the reasons why this cash flow can be reinvested in all these new AI bonds, because there's nowhere else to put it." Globally: Japan's 30-year JGB above 4.18% (a modern record) and its 10-year near 3% for the first time since 1996 against debt at >200% of GDP, a violent unwind of the yen carry trade, a record $88bn of foreign securities sold in August; France's 30-year at 4.9274%, the highest since September 2008; Norway's $2.3T fund cutting all government bonds, possibly $80bn of Treasuries. Yet the ceiling is stated too: "bonds in the US are effectively reasonable here… we don't expect yields to go much higher without inflation going higher." On the Fed, Kalshi is 52% hike / 48% hold for September 16 against UBS (September and December), Barclays (two hikes) and Morgan Stanley (hold, core to 3.1%) — "we think that probability should be lower for a hikeI'm less hawkish than UBS obviously," with Warsh read as managing a committee rather than committing to act, and the settling datapoint named: August CPI. The path is what matters: "if there's just one hike, the S&P should do reasonably well… but if there's more than one hike, things can get a lot worse in risk assets." The risk dials: JPMorgan and Citadel both advising a three-week de-risk, retail the incremental buyer ($2.5bn of NVDA over 15 sessions), software up five straight weeks and only 12% from the highs — "probably time to take some risk off in software"; CCC yields at 13-15%, though sized honestly ("that's only 10% of high yield… you're only going to get 15 billion, which is nothing"); private-credit gates re-imposed across BCRED, Cliffwater, Blue Owl, BlackRock, Morgan Stanley, Ares and Apollo — "so the private credit risk has not gone"; record 5.2% subprime auto delinquencies; and JPMorgan's line that a 5% 10-year is where stocks start to hurt — "we're only 20 bips from there." The arb book keeps working: LPSN closed as "almost like a two-day trade" from the $2.80s to $3.16; SPGI rallied on a Capital IQ spin ("obviously positive because Moody's trades at a higher multiple"); VRNS jumped on Thoma Bravo/Proofpoint talks but from an unaffected 41 to 46 there is "probably not much upside from here"; ATAI closes Wednesday; WBD has compressed enough that NSC/UNP is now the widest spread; and PYPL is re-traded as a range — bought 51, sold 55, "without a bid, shares should trade around 53, so there's not a lot of downside versus the upside if there's a new bid." AVGO was bought on a $58B → $115B → $230B AI guide — "on a 20 multiple that implies AVGO could almost double… I don't know why the market was not happier" — and two names get sell calls: LYB ("just trim or sell… names that are sensitive to oil prices and gas prices, I'm just not as excited about") and CAT, whose CEO sold 48% of his stock. On gold, asked directly: trim or sell covered calls into a hike, "but I would use this as a buying opportunity for adding to gold going into 2027," because "the debasement trade will still be the single biggest trade of coming years" against $18 trillion of OECD issuance with $4 trillion net new, two-thirds of it American. Prior (AUG-30): the most executable week in months, wrapped in the least comfortable macro. Warsh's Jackson Hole address was hawkish because of what he removed, not what he promised — in July he had hinted at waiting for a new inflation measure and "he took that off the table for now by being strict about the PCE. That was probably to satisfy the committee, and that is what the market takes as hawkish" — taking September hike odds to 60-70% and December to 90%, bear-flattening the curve and costing the Russell 140bp. He dissents: "I just don't think that a September or October hike really makes sense right ahead of midterm elections… especially because inflation is roughly flat," reading Warsh as "buying himself time until the new committees… are in place" with the productivity speech still undelivered. Meanwhile Iran fired ballistic missiles at a US air base in Jordan on Sunday hours after US strikes near Hormuz, taking WTI +1.5% to $84.50 and Brent to $89.40, with global inventories "set to reach historic lows if the strait doesn't reopen soon" — and the objection he repeats three times is the timing: "I don't understand why we are doing all this escalation right before midterm elections." The bond-market half got worse, not better: the doubled $4B-per-operation buyback and the floated $950B TGA drawdown were dismissed as "either ineffectual… or unlikely," Druckenmiller attacked the programme in the WSJ as Treasury-run QE, and Singh's own read is narrower — it is "not really QE… issuing bills at the very short duration and buying bonds, long duration, which is effectively increasing the interest rate risk at the Treasury," believable only if the size grows. US debt is through $40 trillion with service costs +15% and 20% of tax revenue. The anchor he now uses is nominal GDP: Q2's 8% is a peak against 1.5% real, and "on a marginal basis, if earnings growth is peaking this quarter and GDP growth is peaking this quarter, I'm less worried about rates going higher" — expressed in 10-to-20-year municipal bonds in high-tax states against 10-year futures positioning "about as net short as they've ever been in history." The AI half is now a credit story: Nvidia printed $96.2B (+106%), commitments $119B → $279B and a 70%-through-FY28 guide, added a record $453B of market cap in one session and gave it back on chip tariffs and the fact that "a lot of Nvidia's growth is being financed by itself… through circular capital arrangements," while hyperscaler CDS hit all-time wides against $3.1 trillion of off-balance-sheet arrangements and the semiconductor forward multiple fell from 21-22× to ~15×. The software side of the same trade has already paid — IGV +25% since June 22 while SOX is −22%, with CRM +23% on the native-Claude Anthropic alliance and usage-based pricing, OKTA +19% and CRWD on a record $333M of net new ARR, against INTU guiding FY27 EPS ~$5 below consensus. And three trades a retail account can actually execute: the ABUS modified Dutch auction at $5.00-5.75 with the 99-share odd-lot exemption from proration (expires September 29, settles October 2, −1.8% to +12.9%), PRTH revisited with the activists' $17-19 marked down to a realistic $7.50-8.00, and PYPL after Stripe walked — bought 51.65, sold 54.40, model published, "we'll buy back close to 50 again. This is one trade you could do several times." Prior (AUG-23): the temporary-peak view is off. "I had expected yields to effectively start to peak, but the new expenditures of 600 billion on missile defense systems and a new military budget expected to be over a trillion and a half has raised deficit expectations over 3 trillion next year and it's made it harder to find a peak in yields." Bessent pleaded with the bond market three times in three weeks and doubled long-end buybacks to $4B per operation — against $97B of net long-bond issuance, so "the buys are really de minimis" — and the market took the 30-year to 5.29% and the 10-year to 4.7% in the week US debt crossed $40 trillion and the dollar fell. The operative rule: "when an official actor reveals where their pain threshold is, and then sizes the defense too small to be decisive, the market's rational move is to lean on it until they escalate or fold" — and, per the BoJ analogue, escalation just relocates the pressure to the currency. So the book leans into hard assets and rate beneficiaries (gold/GLD, silver, copper via HBM, Citigroup on pullbacks with a $165 target) and away from the long end. Prior (AUG-17 — the public version of that week's call): "I think we've hit a temporary peak in the 10-year yield," which is inversely correlated with both tech and speculative names, so the market gets "a few weeks of a rally going into midterm elections" — a "short-term type of Goldilocks environment" — after which he is cautious again, because after November the President "is not really going to hold back" (Iran re-escalation, new tariffs). He names the three things that can kill the spree: a 10-year spike (temporarily off on the Oman/Iran side deal), an inflation print forcing a hike (CPI in line, PPI final demand 0% m/m vs +2% survey → September odds >60% → <40%), and a major war escalation. He bought TLT last week for the first time in years, is adding gold and mortgage names because real rates have temporarily peaked, and separates his book explicitly into holdings versus things bought "for a trade, not for long-term" (SK Hynix, the DRAM ETF, CoreWeave, Nanya; Nebius trimmed on a +34% day). Prior (AUG-16): the soft-data regime held and produced a dated risk plan. July CPI and PPI both came in below expectations and retail sales fell −0.6% m/m against +0.1% expected — "the largest monthly drop in over a year" — taking the implied probability of a September Fed hike below 40%. He treats that as a licence for exactly ten weeks: "until midterm elections or until we see some sort of an escalation in the war with Iran, I do think that the market volatility will be a little bit lowerNow, after November, I plan to take some risk lower. And the reason why I'm telling you guys that early" is that the Iran de-escalation is read as tactical, not resolved — "the President is only backing off on the Iran war because of a lack of munitions and because he doesn't want the war to escalate before the midterm elections," and "especially if he loses the House, I think that there could be some retaliation." Dan Niles' seasonality quantifies the same call: since 1990, end-July to Nov 9 in midterm years returns a median +0.9% with a median peak loss of 6.2% against +2.7% and −3.5% in non-midterm years — a positive median with double the drawdown, so "add some hedges back on further market gains and get more selective." The product changes too: a special-situations screener built "with a team of a couple developers now with Claude," sweeping thousands of ISINs and CUSIPs for M&A, spin-offs, strategic reviews, buybacks, rights issues, restructurings, liquidations, delistings and litigation, launching late September with predictive analytics to follow — motivated by a stated weakness ("one thing that I want to get better at is not to miss names, especially small cap names") and explicitly built for subscribers to run their own screens. The featured long is Unity (U), with a published model in the archive folder: 2Q revenue $546.5M vs $514M, EPS $0.28 vs $0.22, the Vector AI ad platform +23% q/q and past a $1B run rate two quarters early on the day-28 ROAS rollout, EBITDA margin to 27% after the Bromberg reset and the ironSource/Supersonic clean-up, contribution margin 82-83%, and a real-time-3D duopoly with Unreal under 60% of top mobile titles and 70% of the top 1,000 — "the whole AI risk is overblown there," accumulate 35-40, base case 55, upside 71, "set to frankly even compete with AppLovin." The new speculative long is Riot Platforms (RIOT) at $19.85: 109 MW from Rockdale, Texas to Anthropic for $9.1B through June 2048, extendable to 286 MW / $16.1B$2.4M per MW of annual rent at an 80-90% NOI margin, and on 15× NOI against ~$11M/MW of capex the contract alone is "worth about $15 a share… which means that Riot should be worth something like 35 to 40 bucks a share once this starts." The entry existed only because revenue starts December 2027 with full deployment in June 2028: it spiked to 23 and sold back to a 19 handle because "the market wants to see it happen." Also: APP added in the low $300s into BofA's downgrade to neutral (a $400 target on the argument that growth is engineer-directed rather than self-learning); BTBT held as the liquid expression of WYFI's beat (revenue $28.8M vs $19-24M, +15% pre-market, and $380M of new cloud contracts on top of Base10 $165M / Perris $160M / Primetals $108M / Iceland $87.5M — BTBT ran from the low 140s to 157); CRWV owned into a beat ($104B backlog, active power tripled to 1.5 GW, +17% pre-market); TEAM +35% and RDDT rallying on S&P 500 inclusion; SNDK re-added on investor-day targets and the HBF claim that one HBF GPU replaces eight HBM GPUs; BIDU and BABA held on undervaluation into an expected China stimulus. Trim: BW — revenue $319.7M (+130%), net income $14M vs −$60M, FY26 EBITDA raised to $80-105M, a $50M buyback, and the headline number backlog +533% to $2.6B against a $14B pipeline plus 1 GW more of Siemens Energy steam turbines — "up 40% in the pre-market where we trimmed half of the position." New shorts: GBFH, "a bank with like 50% downside… a $1.4 billion bank, valued as a gaming payments platform, but really an undiversified economy hotel monoline. This is half of the book"; and DFNS, "a shell company run by Manny Shalom" that pivoted fintech-to-defence on $3.6M of revenue — "it likely could be a fraud," with a squeeze-and-dilute SPAC history. New watches: SMHI at ~$10 against broker NAV above $20 with two activists inside it (Pointillist 7.2%, "Sofware" 3.5%); NAVI at 40% of tangible book where private lending is arresting the "melting ice cube" (Gator Capital's idea); BASO at a $40M cap with $38M of net cash after unwinding a loss-making IT unit (30¢ of net cash plus 12¢ of business value); GRVY at a $430M cap with $400M of net cash and 0.3× ex-cash EV/EBITDA (Ragnarok, high concentration); and OCTV at 11× EV/EBITDA — "need to do more work on that." Arb: WBD's spread tightened 20% → 15% (26 → 28) as ex-California AG Becerra called a settlement the best outcome in the suit against the $110B Paramount Skydance merger and Paramount bought off the exhibitors with 30 films a year, 45-day theatrical exclusivity and 90-day streaming windows to AMC and Regal; CZR's proxy revealed Icahn's $34 cash bid collapsing on financing, change-of-control covenants, leverage/FCF and the Carano family refusing to roll equity, with the go-shop expiry doubling the break fee to $200M — "we had hoped that the Caesars bid would have been higher… but it looks like the deal is going to close"; VREX +50% on Teledyne (TDY) at $18.90 all cash; PAYO votes Sept 14, ATAI Sept 8, ROKU/FOXA's HSR expires Sept 8 (the S-4 revealing 11 counterparties canvassed and only Fox bidding, $154 → $160/share), CRNX cleared Austria and KVUE Mexico. Income: plain-vanilla fixed income is −1% to +2% YTD (treasuries −1%, IG −1%, MBS −0.5%, munis +0.4%, HY +1.5%, EM +1.7-1.8%, bank loans +2%) while "our prefs have been up mid-high single digits on the year" — and on a 30-year at 5.5% / 10-year at 5% he expects only "a 3 to 5% type sell off in the riskiest prefs" and less "for the more stable ones like Duke Energy," because Bessent "would effectively force Trump to pull back." Structural warnings: private equity is stuck with 33,575 unsold portfolio companies (32,451 last year-end, 15,923 a decade ago; 80% of deals are PE-to-PE, <10% IPOs — "a game of hot potato, or a Ponzi scheme"), returning 6.4% a year since July 2022 against 15% for the S&P and 19% for the Nasdaq, with only 70 PE-backed IPOs in four years versus 424 in 2017-21 (Thoma Bravo's Proofpoint nearly bankrupt and amended-and-extended, Blackstone still holding ancestry.com after six years, Vista's Solera unsold for a decade) — directly bad for BDCs, which "own a lot of these PE companies that will need to refi and will not be able to service interest… more PIK interest." And the index's 50.4% blended Q2 EPS growth is 32% once Alphabet's $98B and Amazon's $53.4B of unrealized Anthropic mark-ups come out (the aggregate surprise falls 29.2% → 11%), against genuine revenue growth of ~15%9.7% ex IT and energy. The cycle clock he now watches is nominal GDP growth (AI-driven) racing ahead of aggregate weekly payrolls, with the top 10% of consumers doing 60% of all spending (from 30% two decades ago) and the savings rate at a record low: "the first thing to break will probably be AI growth, and then second will be the consumer." On NVDA, Jensen Huang's $500B financing consortium (Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs, KKR; up to $125B backstopped by Nvidia, residual-value support capped at 25% per project) is accepted as a real answer to the circularity charge for now — H100 one-year rentals $1.70 → $2.35/GPU-hour, on-demand medians $2 → $2.70, B200s $5.30-7, and a 2020 A100 still earning six years on, "which is one of the bear's main theses" — "I think in the short term, he is right," with the caveat that the ROI "needs to become revenue." Prior week (AUG-09): the Fed risk that dominated last week resolved in his favour, and the regime flipped back to "bad news is good news." A −23,000 non-farm payroll print against +80,000 expected, hourly earnings +0.1% vs +0.3% ("no major wage inflation risk") and 103,000 of downward revisions across May and June (May cut from +129k to +63k — "very suspect") took September hike odds from 60% on August 1 to 40%. The rule he states explicitly: soft data helps equities "unless it's terrible, or until unemployment goes above 5%. But right now, unemployment is only around 4.1%." So he covered ~25% of the short/hedge book into the print, having spent the prior fortnight adding longs through the war scare — "I think we are in a decent position now." The week ahead is the inflation test (CPI Aug 12, core 2.6% → 2.5% expected; PPI Aug 13, core ex-food-and-energy 4.7% → 4.1%; retail sales + U-Mich Aug 14), and the medium-term frame is a range-bound market until after the November midterms, when the market starts pricing 2027. The reason is an accounting one, and it is the call's centrepiece: S&P Q2 headline EPS growth of 47.4% vs 23% expected, a record 88% beat rate and nominal GDP +6.5% y/y look extraordinary — but Alphabet reported $9.11 of EPS of which only $2.88 was operating; the other $6.23 was non-operating unrealized mark-ups on Anthropic ($183B → $380B → $965B) and SpaceX ($800B → $1.25T → a $1.77T IPO, since −40%). Strip those out at GOOGL and AMZN and index growth falls 47.4% → 28.0%. Because Anthropic must raise again for more gains to be booked and SpaceX has already fallen, "the reported GAAP EPS for Alphabet and Amazon have the potential to decline in the first quarter and second quarter of 2027" — against an unrevised 2027 consensus of $405/share (+13%). These "so-far-so-fake" gains are "a dangerous dead weight for 2027 growth statistics." The other half of the growth is real but violently concentrated: Micron contributed $25 of index EPS — ~25% of the entire S&P's Q2 earnings growth — on 850% 2026 growth, with Micron, Samsung and SK Hynix sold out of 2027 capacity and customers allocated only 60-70% of requested volumes ("2027 will enter the most severe moment of memory shortage"). The dependency is circular and credit-funded: Nvidia weighing a $250B backstop of OpenAI → OpenAI = 40% of Microsoft's cloud backlog and 70% of its AI revenue → Microsoft = 22% of Nvidia's revenue → Nvidia = 17% of Micron's; only Microsoft still has positive free cash flow to equity, everyone else is in cash-burn mode funding capex with debt — "which is why CDS for companies like Oracle is blowing out." Morgan Stanley raised 2027 cloud capex to $1.2T (upside $1.4T), and its three-scenario framework has Microsoft and security software (DDOG) winning in all three, with Neoclouds winning "as long as… Meta doesn't flood the market, which is the biggest risk" — made concrete by an Nvidia-employee note that Meta has ~400,000 excess GPUs to place, the single mechanism that would break NBIS and CRWV. On FX, the US Treasury under Bessent sold euros to buy yen alongside Japan's MoF ($52.8B on July 31, the largest single-day intervention on record), taking USD/JPY from >160 toward sub-148/150 to stop a disorderly unwind of the yen carry trade (borrow yen at ~zero against 200% debt/GDP, buy the Mexican peso), which has beaten the S&P's total return over five years — "Bessent worked for Soros and Druckenmiller, and he's well aware of how carry trades can negatively impact the market." Both Robin Brooks (skeptic) and Jesper Koll (optimist) agree intervention alone fails while high public debt caps JGB yields: "risks are still asymmetrically tilted to an even weaker yen, so I wouldn't be buying the yen here." On Iran, Trump is "low-keying it," waiting for 77% Iranian inflation to do the work; a Qatar-drafted interim text pushed Brent below $80 before Houthi strikes on Saudi Aramco's Jizan refinery took it back above $83, with Hormuz still largely blocked and the risk that "after the midterm elections, we just go nuts on Iran." New money: TE (T1 Energy) at $4.70 → ~$6 on a 641 MW Clearway contract and >60% domestic content into the Section 232 polysilicon decision; UBER at ~$68.50 (12× forward, $10B → $15B FCF by 2028 = an 11% yield, BBB+, a $20B buyback, 50M+ Uber One members, a $2B ad run-rate); APP on a sub-1% miss where the scary 27% FCF gap was tax/cash timing ("could double over two years from the mid-300 level"); RDDT at $137 → $160; TLT at "the peak in the 10-year almost perfectly"; RWT in the mid-$4s (discount to book, 15% yield); NOK as an Intel-style asymmetric AI option ("a sleeper name"); CFTR preferreds above 9%; DDOG repurchased after −17% on a beat; GOOGL on the Jeff Dean $250B air pocket ("it's just one data scientist") with GCP accelerating 63% → 82%; more AGI and KGC as Chinese gold-backed ETFs turned to 14 straight days of inflows; and 5 bps of VISN at $10.35 as the $5 special dividend was confirmed (Ruckus closed at $1.85B; ~$15/share returned in total) against a $25M Aurora EBITDA guidance cut caused by memory-chip inflation. Trades/shorts: the intraday DOCS squeeze short (+240% pre-market, shorted at +80%, covered near +50% for >20% in two hours). New watches: NNDM at a negative $80M enterprise value ($433M cash, no debt, a $340M cap) pending its phase-three review; GRAB ($11B cap, $4B net cash, ~$700M EBITDA, $1.7B of buybacks since 2024); SHAK back at the unaffected price after Starboard's stake sent it +12%; COHR and LITE as the named beneficiaries of a drafted FCC ban on Chinese data-center components (Zhongji Innolight displaced); and the Chinese-AI-biotech licensing wave now inside 30-45% of US pharma deals (lab-monkey prices at $26,000; China producing ~34% of global clinical-stage drugs). Earnings tape: TEAM +32-40% ($1.87 vs $1.50), SHOP +34% revenue and +68% operating income, CAT +13% on a record data-center power backlog (hurting Burry's short), BLZE +50% on a beat plus a $335M CoreWeave contract, PLTR +40% (rule-of-40 at 155), AMD's unappreciated +50%/+246% quarter, against META −8%, AAPL −7% on memory-constrained guidance, SNDK selling off on a soft 1Q27 guide despite +372% revenue, and SMCI under accounting investigation. Arb: WBD at 70% odds of close after UK CMA phase-1 clearance, the Cultural Secretary declining to intervene, in-line EBITDA on cost cuts, and formal AMC + Regal backing (~40-50% of US box office); EA closed at $53B ("a relatively steal"); APGE HSR-cleared; DBRG awaiting FERC by Aug 12; BHF awaiting NY/MA/DE insurance approvals; and D/NEE newly complicated by Virginia's governor intervening. Prior week (AUG-02): the house view had shifted its primary risk from the war to the Fed. The July FOMC "fumble" — a hold with three hawkish dissents for an immediate hike and a Warsh press conference offering no forward guidance — produced a "zoo steepener" (2-yr pinned, 30-yr +10-12 bps to 5.21%, the highest since 2007; 10-yr to 4.73%), the Dow −1,153, and the tell: the dollar fell against nearly every G10 currency while yields surged, and gold rallied with real rates — "not how reserve currency markets trade on data; this is how emerging markets trade on politics." Five months of war never closed the VIX consistently above 17.5; one meeting took it to 21. The framework: a war shock gets routed (oil/freight/rates vol) but "the Fed's credibility is not a sector, it is a denominator — you cannot rotate out of the denominator," so it prices as correlation (stocks and bonds down together). The rate map: ~2% off the index per 10 bps on the 10-yr, accelerating above 5%; a break of 4.90-5.00% is a market-wide risk-off trigger, and the only easy release valve is a real Iran peace deal putting oil below $70. Watch also the Japanese 30-yr above 4% (first time in decades; the Fed may have to open swap lines to the BoJ) and the structural reason hikes no longer bite — the top 10% of earners now do ~50% of consumer spending (from ~35% two decades ago) and are rate-immune, so "for the asset-rich, the tightening is actually a pay raise" and only the long end still transmits. On the capex thread the cohort has split by discipline: MSFT held 2027 capex flat (~$117.5B), still printed +$19.6B FCF, Azure +43% past a $100B run-rate and >30M paid Copilot seats (+13%), and AMZN was forgiven a $220B capex guide and −$7.6B trailing FCF because AWS accelerated a fifth straight quarter (+37%, +15% on the day) — while META raised the guide again to $125-145B, printed $784M of FCF (lowest since 3Q22), guided Q3 revenue below consensus, carries $165-169B of youth-addiction litigation and has no cloud backlog to prove ROI, and AAPL fell 8% on Tim Cook's memory-cost "100-year flood" plus a China miss. Index math: hyperscalers ~20% of the S&P at −10% YTD subtract 2% from the index while the other 494 names returned +12%. Two positioning events dominate the tape: the Situational Awareness blowup (Leopold Aschenbrenner's $45B, 8-person, 4× levered long-semis/short-software fund −67% in July, whole public book sold to Citadel on Jul 30 → MS TMT momentum +19.1% in a session, which Dan Niles reads as a forced-liquidation near-term bottom), and Korea's margin-call crash (Kospi −44%, forward PE below 5, 320,000+ accounts liquidated in a day, a 3× SK Hynix ETP −96% in a month) — bought as +20 bps EWY because the fundamentals never moved: SK Hynix printed a record 76% operating margin, Samsung guided to a 19-fold profit jump, and the CXMT scare is misread (6-9% share, commodity DRAM only, >30% higher cost/bit, 30× vs incumbents at 4-6×). Against that, Nomura models DRAM revenue at >$2.06T by 2030 (ASPs $1.90 → $18.60/GB peak in 2027), 5-7× consensus — the memory-cartel thread intact for MU. New money: RDDT +10-15 bps in the $130s after a −23% print that missed only on US DAUs while US ARPU rose 51% ("probably worth around 200"); RWT and DX +10 bps each on the rate-peak view; a TLT tracking position to be scaled toward a 5% 10-yr; and two deep-value special situations — Fiery (SKLZ), whose $719M judgment against Papaya Games sits on a ~$70M EV ($20-30 settlement case, >$50 bull, vs $9.16), and Sable Offshore (SOC), created at ~$1.20-1.35 via Jan-2028 $2 puts once the refi removed bankruptcy risk. Trims/exits: SNDK fully out at the weekly peak (+30%), NBIS halved (+27% day), BE trimmed at $207 after a blow-out quarter, NOW trimmed into the software squeeze, CELH trimmed. Shorts/avoids: the SpaceX 6.65% 2056 bonds (98-99 → 86), CAT as a peak-industrial-multiple macro short, BDCs on rising private-credit defaults, and cash IG/HY at ~300 bps ("focus on prefs and closed-end funds at a discount to par"). Arb: WBD's spread out to 21% ($5.53 at $26) on FCC-chair conviction ("a one-to-one up-down type trade"), EA closing, AES China-approved, and the WSJ report that TSLA may separate its Chinese unit ahead of a SpaceX merger (denied by Musk, with SpaceX −50% from the IPO price). Prior week (JUL-26): two weekend shocks — Nvidia in talks to guarantee ~$250B of OpenAI data-center financing (a 10-GW SoftBank build in Southern Ohio) and a two-night halt to US/Iran missile launches — met the most crowded short book since 2010 (S&P short interest 3.7% of free float) to fuel a countertrend squeeze (Nasdaq +1.36%, 10-yr −5 bps, crude −5%), landing inside the window Signum Global's "Taco Index" (Brent + 10-yr + Hormuz transits + S&P, a 2.9σ composite) had flagged for presidential intervention — 75% odds of an effective ceasefire by Aug 31 before the Nov 3 midterms. The structural story is hyperscaler FCF incineration: Alphabet (GOOGL)'s record $112B net income was 87% markups (SpaceX/Anthropic), FCF went −$5.9B — its first negative quarter since the IPO, capex guided to $195-205B and purchase commitments hit $811B, up $500B in three months, while an advertiser's teardown showed "unhealthy" search growth (the second-price auction silently deprecated, exact-match diluted, budget caps blown by 2×) — "at the altar of AI capex, Google is sacrificing its golden goose of search." Consensus now has aggregate hyperscaler FCF negative in 2027 against >$1T of 2028 capex (Max7 32×→22×). Hence the week's positioning: buy semis on dips (NVDA/MU/AMD/INTC), wait for sell-the-news on AMZN/MSFT/META, and own equal-weight RSP over SPY. New money: the featured special situation Betterware de Mexico (BWMX) — EBITDA doubling to ~4.3B pesos while EV/EBITDA compresses 30% to 3.8× 2027E, >80% cash conversion, an 8.6% dividend (26th straight quarter) and Tupperware LatAm accretion (+36% pro-forma EPS) behind a temporary direct-selling discount; an AppLovin (APP) growth add (~50% upside, "not really AI-disruptible"); the UTZ arb ("anything below 13 is buyable" vs Intersnack's $14.25); WBD on a 15% spread; and the agency/mortgage-REIT income basket — DX, RWT under $5, the RWTS ~10% baby bond, AGNC, and NLY after its raise to $0.75 (13.4%) — on the view the 10-yr may have peaked at 4.7%. Also: RDDT (Q3 revenue >70%, "estimates are probably too low"), ROP (+10% beat-and-raise — "nobody was looking at that name"), NOW ("the AI organization engine"), INTC (buy on dips, not aggressively), NBIS (first Vera Rubin Ultra live), the memory basket trimmed and re-added (MU/WDC/SNDK on Morgan Stanley's 25% price call + HBM sold out through 2027), against AAPL at 37× ("not a buyer"), IBM ("no reason to really own it"), STM (−17%) and a thematic short of non-security software / IT services. The SPCX/SATS pair trade is closed ("take your short-covering profits on SpaceX and sell Echo"), and the new Section 301 tariff regime (10% / 12.5% tiers on forced-labor grounds) replaced the expired Section 122 stopgap. Prior week (JUL-19): earnings beats can't lift a tape fighting the fastest momentum crash since 2008/09 (Morgan Stanley Momo −28% in 24 days) and an Iran war into day 8 (Hormuz closed again, WTI ~$84 / Brent >$90), even as soft CPI/PPI bounced crypto+gold and the 2-yr hit a 15-mo 4.23% (a hike-risk into the Jul 29 FOMC — Fed "on hold" the base case). The featured long is Nebius (NBIS), a net-debt-neutral NeoCloud whose ~$8B of private stakes (ClickHouse/AV-Ride/Toloka/TripleTen) the Street ignores (preferred over CoreWeave); the income add is the RWTS 10% Redwood baby bond. The arb book turns over — ATAI's Eli Lilly bid, a PayPal (PYPL) Stripe/Advent bid cheap enough to invite a topping bid, a Lionsgate (LION) sale rumor, and the WBD antitrust suit ("few surprises", ~75% odds). Framework pieces: a "why the VIX is low" dispersion essay (Bayesian, not complacency — the war's risk is in oil/rates/single-name vol; the falsifiable edge is oil to $110), the open-source-AI / Jevons's-paradox case that cheaper Chinese models drive more compute+memory demand (32% reinvestment breakeven; hyperscaler G-spreads >150), and the Morgan-Stanley-memory-peak-vs-BlueFin-bull debate (SNDK/MU tagged short-term buys). Single names: IBM's −20%+ miss (discretionary-IT rotation), UNH/ABT beats, TSM/ASML selling the beat on capex, NFLX −12.5% ("a buy again"), and VISN downgraded to a cheap-but-capped hold after an expert call found customer concentration. The prior macro read had flipped back to risk-off (JUL-12): the US-Iran ceasefire broke — the Strait of Hormuz is effectively closed again (Polymarket: 20% odds of normalizing by Aug 31), WTI ~$74 / Brent ~$78.50, the 10-yr 4.59% and TIPS breakevens jumping 2.70→2.88 — pushing the Fed toward a "non-cycle" one hike (maybe September; BofA's three-hike call "asinine"), a paradox Deutsche Bank flags because financial conditions stay loose. ("Rates drive the world and the war drives rates.") Two weeks earlier (JUL-05) the read had been the mirror — "bad news is good news" on a 57k payrolls miss and a dovish Warsh — before the war re-escalated. The week's action was a violent memory / AI selloff (SK Hynix −30%, Goldman's momentum index −18%) that turned Micron (MU)'s historic beat-and-raise (85% GM, $18.3B FCF, 16 five-year take-or-pay SCAs / $22B deposits) into a sell-the-news — before Samsung countered with another 20% Q3 DRAM hike (UBS: shortages to 2028). That's the mirror of the durable thread — the memory cartel floor under a 47-year commodity cycle — against the Mag7 / hyperscaler capex-burn de-rate (Amazon FCF −95%, Meta FCF negative by 2027; ~$725B of 2026 capex) and open-source Chinese models taking enterprise share via "model routing." This week's two featured ideas are both value/special-sits: Kinross Gold (KGC), a de-risked tier-1 senior (post-2022 Russia/Ghana exit; $1.4B net cash → ~$4B, record $837M Q1 FCF, highest FCF/oz at $1,488, cheapest senior at 7.7× P/E) with a ~$23.50 asset NAV → $34 (bull $38) vs a ~$24 stock — adding Monday with Alamos (AGI) & Barrick (GOLD); and Vistanc Networks (VISN), the ex-CommScope shell whose $1.7B Belden cash-in is >60% of the cap and a ~$5 special dividend leaves the growing Aurora broadband (DOCSIS 4.0) at ~4× EBITDA. Plus the Circle (CRCL) −14% OpenUSD stablecoin threat, a spins/merger-arb sweep (MIDD/MFP, HON/HONA, SKX, QGEN, INMD, WBD, GTLS), and Micron (MU) bought in the memory flush. (Recent featured longs: Shopify (SHOP) at ~60% upside, the Allied Gold (AAUC) 34% Zijin arb, Sable (SOC) via sold puts.) Positioning tells: Druckenmiller added SE; Burry disclosed new shorts on NVDA/TSLA/CAT/AMAT (first-ever CAT); Jana built a stake in Everpeer (ex-Pure Storage, PSTG); Altana is shorting life insurers (LNC/MET); and Blue Owl (OWL) gated two retail credit funds at 5% (18.8%/38% requests) — the private-credit fault line keeps deepening. Structure: extreme AI vs non-AI bifurcation (41 AI names = 45% of the S&P; 10 names = 60% of the Q2 return) and the largest-ever Russell reconstitution "style blurring" (Mag 7 now 17% of the Value index). Still carried by the ballast — SPGI pure-play post-spin (MGGL), gold/silver (>10%, capped 15%), and the 700-name preferred/baby-bond book.

The product — Special Situations Report (SSR)

What it is: a subscription research service (weekly research call + a ~3,000-member Discord with real-time trade alerts) run by Jay Singh (ex-Goldman Sachs) — an event-driven "house book" managed like a hedge-fund portfolio that retail subscribers can follow position by position. New (SEP-07) — the delivery stack, described in passing while he uses it. The weekly deck now arrives two ways at once: "you should have the PDF, now both on your email inbox and in the SSR Q&A tab. So you can pull it out from either one." Alongside his own ~71-page deck he distributes third-party research he has paid for or received — this week Michael Cembalest's Eye on the Market (J.P. Morgan), flagged for its online war tracker, S&P estimate evolution, Treasury-intervention discussion, hyperscaler debt issuance and the nuclear/SMR renaissance. Time-sensitive material is uploaded live during the call to two named places: "I'm actually uploading the new additions to the S&P 500 and detractions… I'll post those in the SSR Q&A tab and the VIP discussion tab as well." The weekend write-up is a distinct deliverable from the Sunday call — "Jefferies initiated on nuclear this week with a couple recommendations we'll share with you this coming weekend… just to give you a little bit of a preview" (BWXT, CCO, DML, EU, MIR, NXC, SOLS, KAP) — so call subscribers get the trailer and the research follows. And the fastest trades never reach the call at all: the LPSN spread was "a microcap spread which we talked about in the Discordalmost like a two-day trade," closed before this recording went out. A second screener is now in build: beyond the corporate-events scraper, "we started to track in our tracker Form 4s, and we're working on prioritizing which ones are good and which ones are bad. So that screener is supposed to be out in October" — the same origination-tooling philosophy applied to insider behaviour, and the first week it is used on the call it produces both a buy signal (VST's CEO at $270k, "his eighth largest trade out of 13") and a short signal (Caterpillar's CEO selling 48% of his stock). New (AUG-16): a special-situations screener is being built in-house — "we have a team of a couple developers now with Claude. It's become a lot easier to do this type of thing" — sweeping "every single special sits out of the thousands of ISINs and CUSIPs" for filings on M&A, spin-offs, strategic reviews, buybacks, rights issues, restructurings, liquidations, delistings and litigation, with a description of each event, a quick valuation, identified catalysts, watchlist additions and progress monitoring as the situation unfolds. Launch is late September, with predictive analytics layered on afterwards and further functionality after that. The stated motivation is a weakness in his own process — "one thing that I want to get better at is not to miss names, especially small cap names" — and the stated goal is subscriber self-service: it goes on the website "not only to use on the website, but to effectively be able to use the screener to find your own ideas… the ultimate goal is to help people do that effectively." Confirmed publicly (AUG-17): the delivery stack is a weekly research call every Sunday with Twitter Spaces run on those calls, a Discord where the reports are published, a website, and free content on Twitter under "Special Situations News" ("we provide a lot of content for free"). The tool is now described as a scraper over the large filing databases around the world, including SEC EDGAR, that "effectively highlights and finds within several thousand ISINs and CUSIPs all of the special situations and all their filings dailyForm 10s for spin-offs, 13Ds for activism, etc." — aggregated to members behind a login "so you can do your own research and see in real time when a new special situation is announced," built by "a developer team that's been building this obviously with the help of Claude. It's really fast-tracked this process." Launching in September, and the website "is now going to include this new scraping resource for professional traders." The current deliverable is the just-released August asset-allocation report, published on the Discord: names across preferreds yielding 8-10%, gold miners, merger arb, spin-offs, and value and growth, "along with our fixed income and our safe cash allocation."

The trade types below are his own description of the book (David Lin interviews, 2026-JUN-11, ~47:32–52:00, and 2026-AUG-17, ~48:56–50:24, where he sets out the delivery stack, the September scraper and the August asset-allocation report; the preferred/baby-bond, merger-arb and duration mechanics are spelled out further on the earliest archived call, 2024-NOV-10) plus the positions tracked in the stock index above.
