CNBC — research hub

A network-level archive of CNBC. Two kinds of material sit here. The bulk is the "Halftime Report" investment-committee panel (host Scott Wapner with a rotating committee — Josh Brown, Joe Terranova, Stephanie Link, Jim Lebenthal, Steve Weiss, Jenny Harrington, Kevin Simpson, Bryn Talkington and others), where a stance is the panel's net take on a name. Alongside it, single-guest CNBC interviews (Squawk Box and the rest of the network's programming) where one operator or investor is on the record — there the stance is that guest's own. In both cases the speaker is named in every row's "What was said". Fast-rotation trading-desk views plus occasional first-hand operator disclosure, not deep single-pundit theses.
Sections: stock index · overall thesis · transcripts. Last updated 2026-SEP-21.

Stock & name index

Aggregated across episodes and interviews; each ticker links up to the consolidated per-security page. Because this is a network-level archive, the "Current thesis" names who held the view — the Halftime committee member, or the interviewed guest. Newest mention first.

AAPLAppleWeiss cautious (worst day since Apr '25): as Apple keeps raising prices, will telcos keep subsidizing as much of the handset — and a future Starlink consumer service could disrupt the wireless-subsidy model. APHAmphenolOn Evercore's top-six second-half tech-hardware list and one of Josh Brown's written-up best-stocks names (2026-aug-21). Overall thesis

In one line (as of 2026-SEP-15): The AI-safety scare sorted the AI trade by who pays and who saves — and the desk now treats a hike as priced, a 5% 10-year as the driver, and a 7% short-duration yield as the real competitor to stocks. Anthropic's Dario Amodei's weekend essay calling for third-party evaluators and a slower frontier knocked the SOX down 5.3% on Sep 14 as the 10-year cracked 5%, and both committees read it the same way: the vendors and the debt-funded AI-power industrials pay, the spenders save. Santoli's frame ("maybe the spenders are going to be OK, even if the vendors have to do with less") is confirmed by the tape — Microsoft and Alphabet green, Broadcom Weiss's falling knife ("the stock has never bounced"), and Terranova's JOET holding GE Vernova, Vertiv, Quanta, Eaton only until the rebalance because slower spend plus high yields is "a disincentive to see more supply in the debt market" (Santoli: order books "for which nobody has the money to pay"). A day later at Future Proof, Link supplies the buyers'-side evidence (Azure, Google Cloud, AWS all accelerated — "real confirmation that you are starting to see the ROI," except Meta) and Brown the selection rule: "there is no AI without the appropriate amount of cybersecurity" — CrowdStrike +104% YTD, Fortinet and Palo Alto doubled — plus 15 energy names on his best-stocks list as the hedge "you never sell." On the Fed, the Sep 14 desk argued the tool (Weiss/Lebenthal: a hike into a diesel supply shock "doesn't work… they can't open the Strait of Hormuz"; Liz Thomas: "more like 1999" than 1997, because 25bp "isn't going to get us there"; Terranova's one-door risk in a market 3% off its high), while the Sep 15 desk treats it as priced (Brown: stocks rise either way unless the hike comes with "brimstone"; Link: multiples already 23.5× → under 20×). Rick Rieder supplies the bond-side dissent: 25bp "doesn't do anything" for rate-insensitive inflation, costs $100B per 100bp and freezes housing, and a 7%+ three-year single-A portfolio makes stocks a B-minus. New moves: Link back into Wells Fargo (asset cap gone, NIM bottomed, 11×) and Truist; Brown adds Netflix and Delta ("under 80 is a steal") and buys Target; Weiss re-buys Netflix and names Leidos; Lebenthal AstraZeneca; Thomas IAU below $4,300; Terranova Expeditors at a 52-week high and a hard no on AppLovin near its low.  Previously (as of 2026-SEP-08):The Mag-7 comeback survives a hostile macro tape, and the useful output is a transmission channel rather than a stance. A fresh committee (Terranova, Lebenthal, Belski) is handed Wapner's scale — rising oil (WTI highest since June, Goldman at $120 if the Middle East intensifies, record gasoline above $4), rising yields and a 60% market-implied chance of a 25bp hike ten days out, against one counterweight, earnings — and the three of them decompose it differently. Terranova takes the earnings side ("the strength of earnings for me outweighs the rise in oil prices and the rise in yields"; a hike "will literally do nothing as it relates to inflation" except "further freeze this residential housing recession") and then supplies the archive's cleanest macro-to-company channel: fear yields over oil, because "if yields begin to rise… that's when you get the technology and the hyperscalers begin to pull back on issuing the debt… there's a price sensitivity. There's a point at which you're not going to issue debt because the yield becomes unattractive to the buyer" — a macro variable converted into an observable corporate action, and the same argument Lebenthal runs one layer down on Oracle ("don't raise that… the five year credit default swaps are over 200 basis points", with 33% top-line growth the pass mark on Thursday). Lebenthal is the September bear and relocates the inflation input: "it's not oil, it's diesel, which is at a record and shows no sign of abating… no inventories to fall back on… no China cutting demand" — diesel is trucking, farms and crop prices — so with no earnings until October the month is "a sort of no man's land… with the trend to the downside." Belski is the outright bull with the most falsifiable claim on the desk: revisions in the other 493 are strong, October will be "crushed by the financials… they're going to kill it" on a wealth-management cycle that "is not being told" because Q2 was all deal flow, and institutions "are still not fully invested" because they are "overweighting the midterms" (expressed in his final trade, Pinnacle Financial Partners). The hour's most interesting unresolved question is Terranova's: are GLP-1s the missing explanation for the multi-year quick-serve de-rating? — McDonald's, Shake Shack, Wendy's, Domino's and Chipotle all weak together, Belski answering per-company and then conceding "I've never thought about the GLP-1 side of things," his own reductio (Mondelez, Coca-Cola, General Mills) failing because Lebenthal simply agrees ("consumer staples has been nauseous") and Wapner naming the untested control ("the Lilly chart… looks like it's in the opposite direction"). Elsewhere: Apple a day before the event splits Terranova's multi-year foldable option from Lebenthal's "too expensive… I trimmed it at $330", under BTIG's stat that Apple has fallen in 7 of the last 10 Septembers, −3.15% average; Qualcomm pops ~5% on an AWS data-centre deal Belski calls "a structural change" while Lebenthal defers the buy to October for tax reasons (needs sub-$196 against a $230 trim); Novartis has one of its worst days ever on back-to-back phase-3 failures, dragging Amgen down ~10% in sympathy, while AstraZeneca lands a COPD biologic guided above $5B peak sales; Terranova's one healthcare rule is a screen, not a sector ("make sure you have the growth" — which deletes Stryker, Baxter and Intuitive Surgical); Santoli offers a better AI basket than the Mag 7 (the "Q Top", the 30 largest NASDAQ-100 names, still 4% below its record and no new high in three months); and energy is the one unanimous long — IXC at an all-time high, XOP best since 2015, refiners at 52-week highs, and "the commodity trade is probably arguably the strongest trade in the market" — with Renick finding Bloom Energy trading more options premium than SpaceX. Final trades: PNFP (Belski), Cheniere (Lebenthal), Freeport-McMoRan (Terranova).  Previously (as of 2026-SEP-04): The momentum question got answered from a direction the desk was not watching. Two sessions after Terranova pronounced the factor "washed out… but I don't think you step in here until that factor proves itself," a new committee (Lebenthal, Simpson, Sechan, Weiss) is handed Santoli's six-month chart of the Mag 7 reasserting leadership over the S&P 500 — and OpCo's stat that for the first time ever the Mag 7 is now negatively correlated with momentum. The leadership came back without the factor. The desk's explanation is unanimous and specific: NVIDIA's print was "the clearing event" whose read-through took a week and then landed outside chips ("it's things like Microsoft, it's things like Meta"), and the AI capex is verified from the buyers' accounts rather than the sellers' — a sub-three-year data-centre payback per Andy Jassy, Alphabet cloud +80%, Azure +40%. Simpson supplies the archive's most portable single instruction: "you didn't talk about the MAG 7 as an acronym. You both talked about NVIDIA… we're isolating the winners within the MAG 7," with a durability test that is a ratio rather than a chart — "the stocks are moving higher, but in essence, they're getting a little bit cheaper." Weiss converts the whole AI theme from direction to selection ("people believe in the AI trade, but now they're being more selective… companies that have shown that they can generate revenue and ROI"); Sechan is the dissent inside the bull case — the same move is "concentration and weakening breadth," and he would buy weakness, not this strength. The hour's live non-consensus is Lebenthal calling a September rate hike, flagged as personal and not his firm's view, priced for by nobody ("I don't think this market is priced for it") and timed by the midterm calendar — with CPI next week the resolver, Santoli confirming "coin flip odds" and VIX below 14, and Simpson naming that same hike as the invalidator of his own new gold trade. Meanwhile the software de-rating ran a third session (Zscaler beats and falls, Palo Alto still −10% on the week, Fortinet down, Adobe −6% on naming an insider CEO), Tesla's Cyber Cab event landed as "a big fizzle," and the consumer split cleanly — Baruch out of Amer Sports and into Walmart at $100 support, Simpson trimming TJX on a core comp that fell from +6% to +1%, and Lululemon, Nike and On Holding declared "no touch."  Prior frame (2026-SEP-01): September 1st, and the desk is handed a fully-built bearish case — the seasonal statistic, a broken momentum factor, and three sell-side cautions on the same morning (Scott Rubner at Citadel Securities: "use strength to reduce some exposure and add inexpensive protection… I am looking for a tactical reset", with a mid-October re-entry named; JP Morgan's desk to tactically cautious neutral; Wells Fargo turning cautious on equities, "raising peak AI CapEx fears") — and all four members decline it, each for a different and checkable reason. The gauges Wapner opens with are ugly: the 10-year at its highest since January 2025, momentum +0.3% in August against the S&P's +2.6%, the momentum index −9%+ since July 1 for the biggest quarterly underperformance in 25 years — against one stat nobody rebuts, the Dow up 15 of the past 16 months, matched only once in a century (1935–36). Terranova answers with the destination rather than the damage: "while momentum has been down double digits, quality has actually been up 1½%. So the market has somewhere to retreat to" — and reads the freshly-bearish sentiment as the late-stage signal, not the early one ("when sentiment finally turns, that actually is the moment where you don't want to get too bearish… don't join that party"), with one falsifiable tell: "watch the semis… Micron I believe is higher as we speak. That's going to be my indicator." His classifier for the whole quarter is the sore-throat analogy — a manageable two-week problem versus "something far more ominous" — and his verdict is "a very natural but yet violent correction" that does not generalise to the indices, evidenced by what the market is already absorbing without breaking (higher oil, multi-year-high yields). Brown supplies the episode's best diagnostic and its best line. The diagnostic: momentum peaked relative to the S&P on June 22nd — 51 days ago — and has already given back 16.1 percentage points, so "this is not something that's about to happen"; and the unwind has been good, because the non-momentum stocks his colleagues own picked up the slack ("look at the healthcare rally. It's unbelievable"). The line, on the seasonality trade: "in 61% of all Septembers the market goes down. OK, how do you know when you're in the 61 versus the 39?… a lot of it delves into this world where it's astrology for middle-aged men" — "you will not find people who have a fiduciary responsibility to their clients making trades based on the time of the year." Link wants the volatility as an entry (September −2.7% on average, but October +2.8% and November +3.9%) on an economy she reads as fine — JOLTS back to one opening per unemployed person, ISM manufacturing expanding eight months running — and notes value has beaten growth by 14% ytd. Snipe flips the base rate: five of the ten best Septembers since 1950 came when the market entered September strong, and in midterm years, on an 86% beat rate. The one live disagreement is the data-center backlash: Link calls it "silly" and argues 11 states' moratoriums lengthen the cycle by preventing a boom-bust, with the invalidator stated in the right units — hyperscaler spend in dollars, not percent: $1.1T this year, $1.6T next, $2T after, against backlogs giving "enormous visibility… that is the thing that I want to pay now for"; Terranova doesn't dispute the spend but sets a 60-day expectation of intense headlines against his own Vertiv and GE Vernova, ending "at midnight on November 4th" when campaigning stops and the question becomes whether legislation ever passes — which Wapner and Morgan Stanley both refuse (the midterms are "an important signal, not necessarily the inflection point"; material federal risk "more likely after the 2028 elections"; the likely outcome "a conditional build out rather than broad CapEx destruction"). Brown's addition is a PR diagnosis: the faces of AI are Musk and Altman, "and that's just not going to work" — put Michael Dell and Jensen Huang out front — while "nobody is ripping this stuff out… AI is no different from electricity." Single names: Nutrien is the day's one new position — potash as "the cheapest of the nutrients," corn/wheat/soybeans/cotton all up double digits in August, an El Niño forecast, an admission that he "might have reached for it here slightly" and a plan to buy more on a pullback — with CF Industries deliberately skipped because its price correlates to whether the Strait of Hormuz is open (Krinsky's BTIG list off the same DBA breakout to multi-year highs: NTR, LYB, CF, CNH, DE); Palo Alto into tonight's print, where Link trimmed a 6% position on size while forecasting 32% revenue growth and would buy it back lower, against Terranova's warning that the stock falls post-earnings despite 11 straight revenue beats; Brown's two best-stocks risk-management updates — Amphenol (+70% since June 20, the biggest quarter in its 94-year history, stop raised to the rising 200-day at 145, halved by tomorrow's 2-for-1) and Dell (+248%, 500 the breakout, "honor thy stops… $400 on a closing basis is your line in the sand") — plus Airbnb as the case for rules over opinion ("I would never say Airbnb should be considered one of the best stocks in the market. But pull the chart back") and Robinhood as its mirror, sold by the JOET rebalance below today's price: "it's a bad job… you struck out three times." Microsoft on Azure crossing $100B (+43%) and 30 million paid Copilot seats, against Renick's mega-bull closing $36m of December-2027 call spreads. Mid-show, Eamon Javers with CENTCOM confirming US strikes on IRGC targets in Iran after an attack on shipping exiting Hormuz — WTI ~90, Brent ~94, the Dow −400 — and Santoli's read that "all of these things are pressing against their range boundaries… nothing has changed trend wise, but we're not far from that level where people have to say the equation has been changed." Final trades: Apple from both Brown ("pay attention to the stocks that are up on the down days… they are accumulating this name") and Terranova ("a validation of John Ternus"), Snipe on an unnamed 40%-revenue-growth name, and Link on an acquirer at 8.5× EBITDA.

Prior frame (2026-AUG-31): The two catalysts the desk spent 2026-AUG-21 arguing about have now happened, and neither one worked — which turns the show into a diagnosis. NVIDIA "validated the AI story as much as they had to" (guiding to roughly 70% revenue growth and, unusually, out to 2028 against a street at 44%), Warsh was "definitely hawkish" but a September hike is "not a shoo-in" — and the tape is red across the board with rates and oil up and Iran/US strikes resuming. Terranova's answer is positioning, and it is now self-confirming: "momentum funds like myself are kind of getting more confirmation of moving away from that high beta AI exposure into your healthcare, into your energy, and by the way, into commodities — agriculture prices right now are on fire." Wapner sizes the factor rather than the story, from the WSJ's Zuckerman/Banerji piece: the momentum index is down more than 9% since July 1st against the S&P's +2.8% — the biggest quarterly underperformance in 25 years, with July the second-worst momentum month in ~40 years (BofA), beaten only by April '09. Then Terranova puts a brake on his own trade with the hour's best question — the fundability test: "if you tell me you're going to move away from NVIDIA, move away from Apple, and take significant stakes in energy, healthcare, consumer discretionary — how confident are you that the high earnings expectations we have over the next four quarters, that that area of the market can meet it? If you rely on history, you're going to be disappointed" — and strikes industrials off the destination list because "that's part of that AI universe." His most uncomfortable observation is that the print may have killed the broadening: "the market's getting back to being more concentrated. Why? Because NVIDIA is stepping forward into leadership." Saccocia says the trade has no narrative left rather than no demand ("this has been essentially priced in… demand's not going to matter if you can't deliver on it"), that the data-center backlash becomes an election story "the minute we turn the calendar page after Labor Day," and supplies the one live mispricing: three rate hikes are priced in, pressuring financials and small caps (the Russell led the downside) — "but if you don't think that's going to happen, which we don't, then the catalyst could be a rotation into those names." Harrington refuses the whole framing: up 13½% after three ~20% years, Cisco already +50% at 25× "richer than it's ever been," Salesforce and Adobe "impossible to put a valuation on" and even Caterpillar/GE Vernova hard because of unverifiable turbine queues — "it's OK to pause… the economics always trumps politics," and "if NVIDIA couldn't be a catalyst, why would Broadcom be?" Talkington supplies the two checkable numbers: 60% of data centers approved for 2027 haven't broken ground (with CenterPoint and PG&E both announcing ratepayer givebacks funded by data-center load, against a 200,000-account Chinese bot swarm pushing the opposite), and 60% of NVIDIA's last-quarter revenue sat in accounts receivable — "why can't these people just pay their bills?" — plus the seasonal overlay (Sept→Nov of midterm years ≈ a 10% drawdown since the '60s, strong returns after). Single names: Palo Alto into tomorrow's print on the CrowdStrike/Okta clean sweep ("positioning there is being rewarded for staying anchored… if they don't deliver, the buyers show up aggressively"), Okta additionally as a take-out target; DocuSign as the replicability test — ChatGPT replaced her need for Adobe but "cannot recreate DocuSign" — at 13× with a 10% FCF yield, "totally de-risked… buy it now"; Dell (EPS +112%, revenue +48%, "a complete beast… still the epicenter of the AI build out"); Palantir ("be careful what you short", Loop $220); Zoom long on the Anthropic relationship against AppLovin at a 52-week low; Apple through Tim Cook's last day — John Ternus takes over, Cook stays executive chairman to run the president/China relationships, and Phil Schiller steps out of the App Store role the same afternoon amid CFO/COO turnover, 30% commission pressure (already 25% in China) and soft services — with Talkington "definitely long and not even thinking about selling"; Tesla, where she added at 360 while Renick reports ~$1B of premium, 70% calls, biggest open interest at the 400 strike into Thursday's cyber cab event; and a four-deal Merger Monday whose lesson is price the seller (KKR banking ~$3.3B selling USI to Aon for $17B — "a big bite for Aon"), whose deals cluster in data-center cooling (SLB), Permian/LNG (ONEOK) and pharma diversification (Lilly), and whose clock is the midterms: "if we go purple… it means gridlock. I'll bet a lot of people are going to try and get deals in before that." Final trades: GPIQ (10½% yield), GXO (6% FCF yield, 14×), financials/alternative managers, and Nutrien ("I will personally buy this on the close").

Prior frame (2026-AUG-21): Into a week carrying NVIDIA's print (Wednesday) and Warsh at Jackson Hole (Friday), the desk splits on whether a scheduled catalyst can still be a catalyst. Harrington: "I don't think next week even matters" — Warsh is off the hook because earnings are doing all the work (the 10-year went 4.2 → 4¾ and the market rose anyway), NVIDIA can only confirm what is known, and "all that matters between now and the next four months is Q3 earnings reports that start in November… the earnings growth rates are predetermined, mathematical." Brown takes the complete other side with the episode's line — "Jensen Huang is the AI Fed chair… he is to the earnings growth of the S&P what Kevin Warsh is to interest rates" — and relocates the event away from the reporter: expected revenue of $92B is +97% year-over-year in sales for the largest company in the world ("I cannot believe this stock sells at a near market multiple"), but the trade is the two-to-three-hundred large caps that re-rate off the 2027–28 guidance, whose surface area he reads out loud (Dell $300B, HPE $74B, Arista $235B, Marvell $200B, Broadcom $1.7T, GE Vernova $270B, Eaton $165B, Vertiv $100B). Wapner's synthesis is the operative one — the market needs confirmatory, not revelatory — and Brown accepts it on the evidence that multiples contracted this year while prices rose, so nobody is extrapolating. Sechan supplies the transmission channel: "what happens at the long end of the curve is what drives the incremental flows — if interest rates pull in you get a high-beta bid and momentum's going to be fine for a bit," with the Fed's only real levers (hike, or effectively QE while tightening the balance sheet) both unpalatable and the genuine relief valve being the Strait reopening. Santoli ranks Warsh above NVIDIA on distribution width — the market "knows how to prepare for and metabolize NVIDIA at this phase" — while flagging the week's sputtering drivers (semis −6%, banks −4%, industrials faltering) against a market still a couple percent from its high, and a risk that "skews in the direction of overheat." Raskin is the only one asking NVIDIA for something new: prove out the end case — "what are the killer apps besides coding? The productivity story is still to come" — and she flags OpenAI's growth as "a little disappointing." The sector work is where the reusable ideas are. Harrington's rate construct is the inversion of the momentum trade: long rates stay high on supply (AI-driven corporate issuance + government debt), so cash today beats cash tomorrow — which explains healthcare (PFE +17% ytd, BMY +25%, TMO +6% on the week, all independent of the Moderna headline that skewed the sector's "best week") and midstream energy alike. Raskin's healthcare is technological instead: Illumina, her largest position and "the entire backbone of our genomic sequencing," at a $30B cap against Brown's $100–300B roll call. Sechan's is valuation: Gilead / Lilly / AbbVie on "consistency of earnings, valuation, great pipelines" in a sector where Lilly re-rated from 50× into the 20s without losing GLP-1 dominance. In energy, Krinsky's "running on fumes" meets Brown's breadth data — IEO at all-time highs (+54% vs XLE +45%) and only 30% of XLE names at 52-week highs, "that's not an overbought sector" — while Harrington decomposes the rally: the majors (Chevron 165→200 "purely" because crude went $58→$86) are a commodity bet she'd walk away from, the midstream (ET, EPD, KMI, MPLX) is a business she keeps; Sechan won't trim an energy overweight held all year as a rates-and-inflation hedge (Suncor, CNQ), and both sides land on Devon. Single names: Cisco as the who-cares-who-wins layer at a 5% FCF yield (and 25×, "a little premium to the market where it used to trade at a discount"); CrowdStrike held through its worst week since March '25 on an NVIDIA-bred hire; Impinj as an RFID duopoly where UPS and Walmart just moved from pilot to default; and Brown's best-stocks spotlight on the two Halo names that have never left the list — Monster (+230,000% over 25 years, Q2 sales +20.2%, traders' stop 41 / investors' 35) and Coca-Cola ("I think we'll see 100 bucks," invalidated below 77), which Harrington refuses at 27× for 7% growth and a K-shaped consumer. Exchanges are the one structural negative: Cboe, CME and Intercontinental have all fallen off the best-stocks list as perpetual futures and prediction markets attack their highest-margin flow — and the long side of the same trade is Robinhood, where that business is now the best-margin thing it does, "better than even crypto."

Prior frame (2026-AUG-19): The bull case is intact but the mechanism has changed: after the 30-year cleared 5.30%, the Treasury doubled the size of its long-end buybacks and the desk read it as what it looks like — de-facto yield-curve control on a political calendar. Terranova dates it out loud ("60 days, early September right up to the midterm election") and maps the flow it forces: capital out of the momentum factor, out of memory, out of semiconductors — and "excitingly" into healthcare and energy. Simpson supplies the mechanism ("a 10-year at 5%, a 30-year at 5½, and the institutional quants move out of equities into fixed income — pure math") plus the limit ("they can't control the long end"); Liz Thomas supplies the analogue (2011 Operation Twist effectively put a floor under the S&P), the isolate (5.3% on the 30-year was the Treasury's discomfort level, and the 30-year isn't where earnings are discounted anyway) and the only contrarian risk on the desk — a hawkish Warsh at Jackson Hole turns this into a bear flattener and a tug of war between the Treasury and the Fed. Santoli calls it a rescue operation (100+ new 52-week lows in two days) that worked because it caught "saturating bearishness on bonds," and adds the separation that matters: semis have nothing to do with rates — down 5% on the week in their own liquidation dynamic — while "the rest of the market is responding to rates, because that's when you get a broadening." On earnings, Talkington discounts the headline (back ~20 points out of the 51.6% Q2 growth for a handful of giants; within tech it's NVDA and MU skewing it further) and reframes the rate panic historically — "we saw rates at this level in 2024 and 2025, and if you did anything with your portfolio you really regretted it" — with the forward tell being the rate of change of earnings, not the level. The rotation destinations both got their own catalyst the same day. Healthcare: Moderna more than doubles on the first-ever phase-3 win for the Merck-partnered personalized cancer vaccine (met the endpoint in melanoma alongside Keytruda), Simpson sees a path to extending Keytruda past its ~2028 patent cliff, Terranova refuses to chase Merck at "nearly 55 times… that's for 3% growth," and Liz Thomas — long healthcare all year and "looked like an idiot most of the time" — argues this rotation sticks because tech and healthcare are rising together, unlike last year's: "a sector you get paid to wait for… it is not too late." Energy: a record high and an eighth straight up day for XLE, driven by the 3-2-1 crack at an all-time high (Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries), with Talkington long on under-drilling and a record-low SPR — but Terranova turns his own discipline on his own call: the refiners "are beginning to look like the Micron memory trade at the end of June… extremely bullish" positioning, so rotate within the theme (VLO/PSX → DVN/FANG) rather than leave it. Single names: Marvell +10% on Alphabet's option to buy a $12.2B stake (57 of 59 million shares contingent on future purchases) with Broadcom's decline read as second-order risk only; Simpson finishes the switch of IBM into Alphabet ("1% left… I do everything at a glacier pace") on Alphabet's three-supplier TPU ecosystem and more disciplined spend; a 152½ covered call on TJX at a 600% annualised premium into a print whose miss landed in the 60%-of-revenue Marmaxx core; Tom Lee's core-list update (adds JPM and Arista) passes unopposed while his Robinhood avoid draws three rebuttals from two opposite premises (Simpson: it has outgrown the bitcoin proxy label; Talkington: it is crypto and crypto is waking up; Terranova sold on momentum and prefers IBKR); gold gets a Wells Fargo $4,900 target, a 3:1 call skew in GLD and Liz Thomas's 5,000 call on renewed central-bank reserve demand (Simpson owns AEM); TLT calls run 2:1 and IBIT calls 5:1 on regulatory news; and Terranova stays long Walmart into a print where two-thirds of ~$60M of options premium is on the put side.

Prior frame (2026-AUG-11): Five sessions (Aug 5–11) of one argument: the bear case has been priced and it isn't worth much. The target parade keeps widening — Wolfe 8000, Yardeni 8250 "maybe conservative," JPMorgan 8000, Evercore's 9000 bull case, CFRA 8050→8650, Tom Lee 7,900–8,000 this month — and Josh Brown supplies the data that kills the "earnings bubble" rebuttal: through 80% of the S&P by market cap, growth is 28.3% excluding tech (32% with it), net margin was revised up mid-season to 15.6%, sales grew 15.2% (300bp above the two-month-old expectation), 10 of 11 sectors grew profits, and analysts raised in-quarter estimates by +0.1% against a 20-year average of −1.9%. "You can fake earnings, you can't fake revenue." Sechan's positioning check: an 88% beat rate, a falling P/E, and institutional positioning in the 37th percentile — "not stretched, not even a bit." Terranova closes it by pricing the bearish trade instead of arguing it: "5 to 10% down, and then you have to be fast enough to get back in" — to be bearish you need a setup where the market falls 20%+ and stays there. The counterweights are real but bounded: Terranova's own invalidator is re-concentration (cap-weight beating equal-weight, momentum piling back into NVDA/MU/MRVL/GLW), Krinsky's March-2000 rhyme (an S&P +5% in four days into a 52-week high, three precedents in 30 years) and "musical chairs," Ethridge's pull-forward caution (hyperscalers pre-funded next year's purchases this year, so CAT/GLW third-order demand may air-pocket in 2027), Harrington's productivity paradox, and Santoli's warning that the tape re-risked instantly (a rock-bottom five-day put/call). The defining event is the NVIDIA $500B consortium, confirmed Aug 11 with MOUs from Goldman, Apollo, Blackstone, Brookfield, KKR and BlackRock: Brown reads it as socializing a structural compute shortage into a yield product Wall Street is desperate for, Sechan as de-risking (NVIDIA retains 25%) that makes compute an investable infrastructure asset, Terranova as the end of GPU pricing risk plus a prediction that compute becomes one of the world's largest futures markets alongside oil. Single names: two NVIDIA buys in one show (Simpson at 218 — "not a trade, an investment" — and Link's first-ever purchase at 18×, "cheaper than Colgate or Hershey" on 85% revenue growth); SpaceX works through its first earnings report (−9% on $18.4B of capex), its lock-up (float 5%→12%, shares +140%) and Terrafab with Tesla, with Link buying more and Brown calling it "the too-hard pile"; Alphabet takes a DeepMind brain-drain hit the desk unanimously calls an overreaction, then sits "in the penalty box" as one of Belsky's five must-own US stocks; Apple gets its first six sell ratings since 2020 and three members stay long anyway; and Brown's best-stocks work produces Visa ("the path to 400 is clear"), Expedia ("a narrative violation — it's not SaaS, it's travel") and an exit flag on Block. Sells: Ethridge dumps Spotify over AI-slop policing costs, Belsky swaps Qualcomm into Truist, Fiserv is exited on lost management credibility, and Brown refuses the whole apparel complex (ONON's worst day ever, Nike "too big," Under Armour "a failed company").

Prior frame (2026-AUG-10): The desk has flipped from "is this a top?" to "how high?" — JPMorgan joins the 8000 club, Evercore floats 9000, Goldman's Pascarello says de-grossed hedge funds and lower gross leverage leave positioning clean enough to keep going, and Terranova will say 10,000 by December 2027 out loud. Firestone's structural add: retail is 25% of the market vs 5% twenty-five years ago, and the equal-weight S&P (+15% ytd vs 13%) proves the broadening is real. Amoroso's "three Cs" (corporates, CapEx, consumer) plus a Zillow-adjusted real-time core CPI of ~1.6% is the case the Fed doesn't spoil it. Three live arguments underneath: (1) Apple takes a rare sell-side downgrade (Jefferies to underperform, cancelled all-glass iPhone, memory-cost margin squeeze) and the committee splits — Lebenthal sells half but shows the sell call is nearly un-actionable for a taxable holder (the stock must fall 25–35% to clear the tax bill), Firestone holds and treats 33× as a trim-and-reload cycle, Terranova sees momentum waning and pre-commits to buying the decline into the moving averages; (2) software squeezes (IGV +8.5%, Palantir +30%, Atlassian +40%) — Terranova recognises his own laggard-with-new-momentum pattern and still won't buy it ahead of the Anthropic/Databricks/OpenAI IPOs, trusting only cyber and Zoom, while Amoroso rotates semis→software as the bottleneck-resolution beneficiary; (3) energy is the alpha — Terranova took his ETF to a 10% energy weight (~3× benchmark) precisely because repeated "we've got a deal" headlines emptied out the longs, and got paid the same week (energy +3.6%, best sector, oil back above $80). Micron is Lebenthal's conviction (two tranches at ~$1,000 avg, 6× forward, buybacks unlocked at the CHIPS-Act anniversary); Berkshire is his sum-of-the-parts defense against Michael Burry (13× forward for the operating companies = "13 times forward earnings for the US economy"); NVIDIA breaks out then gives back 3% on the FT's $500B financing consortium (Apollo, Blackstone, BlackRock GIP, Brookfield, Goldman, KKR).

Prior frame (2026-JUL-10): The tech trade is catalyst-driven (news, not flows) — and Meta is the found catalyst: Zuckerberg reframing its giant AI CapEx as an asset it can resell like AWS/Azure flips the two-year "how does Meta monetize AI?" bear case, and the whole committee piled in (Simpson new buy, Weiss's biggest-ever position, Harrington "the only Mag-7 we still invest in," Baruch "bottom of the ninth"). SK Hynix debuts as the largest ADR listing ever (+16%, NVIDIA's #1 HBM supplier) but no one bought it; memory splits the desk investable-vs-tradeable (Baruch's Micron vs Harrington "trade it, not investable"), and Weiss's resolution is "all roads lead to Taiwan Semi." The prior week's frame still holds: the Mag-7 selloff was a momentum reset, not a top (semis whipsaw = $200B leveraged-single-stock-ETF structure); the year's defining question is where ~$700B (→$1T) of Mag-7 CapEx accrues — own the customer (Apple), not the spender. Baruch adds gold miners/GDX + OUNZ on a walked-back-hawkishness thesis; Harrington counters gold "is not an investment" but copper (Freeport) is.
